🎬 LINKALOOP: YouTube remixes Extension that lets you create remixes of multiple YouTube videos, store them locally and share them. ───────────────────────────── 🌟 WHAT THE EXTENSION DOES ───────────────────────────── Linkaloop allows you to create video remixes and custom edits using clips extracted directly from YouTube videos. • Clip: An excerpt from a YouTube video, complete with custom start times, durations, and even cropping to zoom in on specific parts of the screen. • Remix (Playlist): An ordered sequence of clips that can come from a single YouTube video or be mixed together from multiple different videos, playing seamlessly one after another. You can save your creations locally in your browser or instantly share them with anyone using a simple link on linkaloop.com—meaning your friends can watch and enjoy your custom remixes even if they don't have the extension installed! ───────────────────────────── 🚀 INSTALLATION ───────────────────────────── The extension installs like any browser extension. Once installed, it's only active on YouTube pages. The first time you click the toolbar icon, a popup asks for confirmation before injecting the controls onto the page. You can deactivate the extension by clicking the “Quit” button: the extension remains installed and keeps local data, but no longer interferes with YouTube. ───────────────────────────── 🎵 WHO’S LINKALOOP FOR? ───────────────────────────── Linkaloop was primarily developed for musicians and performing artists. As a hobbyist musician myself, I felt the need to share mixes of multiple performances from different channels without having to create a brand-new video or download videos I don’t own. Feel free to express your creativity, make remixes of any kind, and share them with the world! ───────────────────────────── 🎛️ INTERFACE ───────────────────────────── The control bar A fixed bar appears at the bottom of the YouTube page, featuring: ▶️ Playback — prev / play-pause / stop / next to navigate the current playlist. 🔁 Loop — enables or disables looping back to the start of the playlist at the end. 💤 Sleep timer — stops playback after a delay in minutes. 📂 Sidebar — opens and closes the management panel. ❌ Quit — disables the extension on the page (the bar disappears). The sidebar A right-hand side panel, opened via the sidebar button on the bar or via the icon in the browser toolbar. Editing clips, managing playlists, and handling files all take place here. ───────────────────────────── 📋 MANAGING PLAYLISTS ───────────────────────────── The selector at the top of the sidebar shows the active playlist. Three buttons accompany the selector: • Rename: Edits the name and description of the selected playlist. • New playlist: Creates an empty playlist. • Delete: Deletes the playlist and all its clips (not possible if it's the only one left). ───────────────────────────── ➕ ADDING A CLIP ───────────────────────────── The green block at the top of the sidebar captures the context of the current video: Navigate to the YouTube video and position yourself where you want. Enter a name in the field (the badge shows the current timestamp). Set the duration in seconds. Click Add to playlist to append it to the end of the active playlist. ───────────────────────────── ✏️ EDITING A CLIP ───────────────────────────── Clicking a clip's name in the list opens the edit view. Available fields include: • Name — Identifier shown in the list and in the bar. • Description — Internal note, not visible during playback. • Video ID — YouTube video identifier (e.g. dQw4w9WgXcQ). • Start (s) — Starting position in seconds. • Duration (s) — Length of the excerpt in seconds. • Overlay text — Text displayed on the video during clip playback. • Overlay position — Position of the text on screen (3×3 grid). • Zoom — Zoom in on the video to focus on a specific detail. Click Save to apply changes, or Delete to remove the clip after confirmation. ───────────────────────────── ↕️ REORDERING & COPYING CLIPS ───────────────────────────── • Reordering: Use the ↑ ↓ arrows (visible on hover) to move a clip one position, or use Drag & drop by grabbing the ⠿ handle to the left of the clip. • Copy-Pasting: Click the copy button (clipboard icon) on hover to store a clip internally. A Paste button will then appear at the bottom of the list to duplicate it where you want. ───────────────────────────── 🌙 SLEEP TIMER ───────────────────────────── Clicking the moon icon in the bar opens a field to enter a delay in minutes. Once confirmed, a countdown is displayed and playback stops automatically when the time is up (at the end of the current clip). Click the moon icon again to cancel. ───────────────────────────── 🔗 SHARING ───────────────────────────── The box at the bottom of the sidebar generates a link to linkaloop.com containing your playlist encoded directly in the URL. • Listen to your playlist without the extension, from any device, without creating an account. • 100% Private: The playlist is entirely contained in the link—no data is sent to a server. ───────────────────────────── 📥 IMPORT / EXPORT ───────────────────────────── Exchange your data easily in JSON format using the buttons at the bottom of the sidebar: • Export / Export Database: Download your active playlist or your entire database as a .json file. • Import: Restore your data from a .json file (choose between replacing or merging databases). ───────────────────────────── 🔒 DATA AND PRIVACY ───────────────────────────── All data (playlists, clips, settings) is stored locally in your browser via browser.storage.local. Nothing is sent to an external server, and the extension does not collect any browsing data. ───────────────────────────── ⚠️ KNOWN LIMITATIONS ───────────────────────────── • Works exclusively on youtube.com pages (not active on YouTube Music or the mobile app). • Private or geo-blocked videos cannot be played. • On very long playlists (>50 clips), the share link may exceed 2,000 characters and progressively strip optional fields (descriptions, overlays) while preserving the core clips (import and export files have no such limitation). • On Firefox for Android, mobile YouTube (m.youtube.com) may require switching to "Desktop site" or allowing audio autoplay for a seamless experience.
