Translation that stays where you are reading. LingPeek is a focused Chrome extension for the small moments when an unfamiliar word, phrase, or sentence interrupts your reading. Select foreign-language text and LingPeek reveals the translation directly around the selected reading position. No separate translator tab. No copy-paste. No extra Translate button just to see the result. WHY LINGPEEK Most selection translators add another step: select text, find a translation action, open a detached result, close it, and find your place again. LingPeek is built around a shorter flow: Select → read → keep going. KEY FEATURES • Translate Lens The translation appears around the selected reading position without permanently replacing the webpage text. • Single-word support Select one word, a phrase, or a full sentence. For short selections, LingPeek can use nearby context, page-language hints, Chrome language detection, and reliability checks to reduce unsuitable isolated-word results. • Automatic or manual languages Leave the source language on automatic detection or choose it yourself. Choose the target language you want at any time. • Smart Trigger LingPeek stays quiet when the selected content is clearly not useful translation input, such as standalone URLs, email addresses, numbers, prices, file paths, hashes, command-only text, code-heavy selections, or text already in the target language. • Original text on Alt Hold Alt while Translate Lens is visible to temporarily reveal the original selected text. • Copy and site controls Copy the translation, pause LingPeek on an individual website, or disable it globally. • Local HTML support After you explicitly enable Chrome's “Allow access to file URLs” setting, LingPeek can also work with selectable text in local HTML pages you open. LOCAL-FIRST BY DESIGN LingPeek uses Chrome's built-in Translator. There is no LingPeek translation server and selected text is not sent to an external translation API. LingPeek includes: • No account • No translation history • No behavioral analytics • No advertising • No external translation API • No sale of user data Selected text and, when needed, a limited amount of nearby context are temporarily processed only to provide the translation interaction. Extension preferences are stored locally in Chrome. Chrome may prepare or download browser-managed language resources the first time a source and target language pair is used. LANGUAGES LingPeek supports a broad set of languages available through Chrome, including English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai, and more. Actual language-pair availability and translated wording are determined by the user's Chrome installation. It does not provide full-page translation, PDF translation, OCR, image translation, subtitle translation, or input-field translation. Chrome-controlled pages, Chrome Web Store pages, protected browser surfaces, inaccessible frames, canvas-rendered text, and some custom editors may not support the normal selection workflow. Select.
