LingoBinge: Language Learning Subtitles
Overview
Learn a language while you watch YouTube or Netflix. Subtitle words swap to your target language; tap any to translate and save.
Watch what you already watch. Learn while you do it. LingoBinge swaps a few words in the subtitles into the language you are learning, right on top of YouTube and Netflix. You keep following the story, because the sentence still makes sense. You just meet the new language inside it. Tap any swapped word to see what it means. Tap once more to save it for review. That is the whole loop. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install LingoBinge and open a video on YouTube or Netflix. 2. Turn on subtitles in your source language. 3. A few words per line appear in your target language, highlighted. 4. Tap a highlighted word for the translation and the sentence it came from. 5. Tap again to save it. Saved words come back for review in the web app. You control how much gets swapped. Start with one word a line and turn it up as it gets easy. Turn it down again on a hard scene. Nothing is locked. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT Most language apps ask you to leave what you were doing and go practise. This one runs inside the thing you were already going to watch, so there is no separate habit to maintain. Grading happens on your own machine for words the built-in dictionary covers, so subtitles appear as fast as you can read them. No streaks. No daily reminders. No notifications guilting you back. Watch when you watch. No account needed to start. Your saved words live in your own browser. LANGUAGES Available now: English into Indonesian. More pairs are in progress. You can request one from the extension and we will tell you when it is ready. CAPTIONS AND ACCURACY Many YouTube videos only have auto-generated captions, which mishear words and put breaks in odd places. Where we can tell captions are machine-made, we say so, rather than presenting a guess as a transcript. Human-written captions give noticeably better results. PERMISSIONS, PLAINLY LingoBinge reads the subtitle track on the video pages you open so it can grade and render it. It does not read anything else, and it is only active on YouTube and Netflix video pages.
