Overview

Group related tabs with on-device AI. Keep useful groups, reject the rest, and reorganize without closing your tabs.

A crowded tab bar usually holds a few different things you're working on. Thread uses on-device AI to find related tabs and give them short names in Chrome's own tab groups. Click the toolbar button to organize the current window. Your current page stays active, pinned tabs stay put, and no tabs are closed. Existing groups guide new matches without being merged or emptied. If a group doesn't fit, reject just that group. Its tabs stay open for the next Organize ungrouped tabs run, while the useful groups remain. Thread remembers the rejected combination for the current browser session, so it won't immediately put the full set together again. You can also undo the last run or choose a more focused or broader grouping style. Uncertain tabs can stay loose. The AI runs on your device. You don't need an account, an API key, Chrome's built-in AI, or experimental flags. The first run asks to download about 85 MB of model files from Hugging Face. The host receives file requests, not your tab titles or addresses. Once the models are cached, they can run offline. Thread processes open tab titles, group names, and minimized addresses locally. It doesn't read page contents, cookies, or closed browsing history, and sends no analytics. Optional tab-activity learning is off until you enable it. Chrome 121 or newer on desktop is required. Incognito windows are excluded. Thread protects pinned and playing tabs, plus frozen tabs, split views and shared groups when Chrome reports those features. Chrome doesn't expose a reliable camera/microphone/screen-sharing indicator to Thread. Undo and tab-specific corrections last for the current Chrome session, including service-worker suspension. They reset when Chrome restarts or the extension is reloaded or updated. Native groups, your settings, and downloaded models remain. Chrome's own group synchronization follows your browser settings. AI grouping won't always match what you had in mind, and names can need editing. English titles work best. Thread is independent of Google and Mozilla.
