Overview

Restores Gmail's classic yellow Important marker in the message list and conversations. No data collected, no permissions.

Google changed Gmail's "Important" marker from its classic yellow/gold to blue. This extension quietly puts the gold back. WHAT IT DOES • Important messages show the original gold marker (#F4B400) again. • Works in the message list (Inbox, Starred, Important, search results) and inside an open conversation. • Messages that are not important are left exactly as Gmail draws them — the hollow grey marker is untouched. • Covers both of Gmail's marker implementations: the list icon and the conversation-header button. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • It does not change how importance works. Clicking the marker still uses Gmail's own control, and Gmail still decides which messages are important. • It adds no buttons, panels, banners, suggestions or tracking. • It does not modify any other part of Gmail. PRIVACY The extension changes the colour of one icon. That is all it does. • It requests no permissions at all. • It loads no remote code and makes no network requests. • It does not read, collect, transmit or store any data — not your messages, not your address, nothing. • Everything happens locally, in your own browser tab. HOW IT WORKS Gmail renders the importance marker as an icon whose colour comes from a style rule. This extension overrides that one rule with the classic gold, using Gmail's own stable state attributes rather than its obfuscated class names, so it keeps working across Gmail redesigns that re-hash CSS classes. A note on the shade: Gmail draws the marker at 70% opacity, so on the dark theme the gold reads slightly muted. That is exactly how Gmail drew its own yellow marker — the colour is #F4B400 before Gmail's opacity is applied. TRADEMARKS Gmail is a trademark of Google LLC. This is an independent, community-made extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. FEEDBACK If a future Gmail redesign moves the marker, the fix is a small selector change and will be shipped promptly.
