Overview

Self-hosted sync for your bookmarks and your open tabs — two tools in one extension sharing one server, token and sync name.

TabbySync keeps your bookmarks and your open tabs in step across your computers — and sends them only where you tell it to. Most sync tools ask you to trust a company with your browsing. TabbySync has no account, no analytics, and no server of its own. You pick the destination; your data goes there and nowhere else. šŸ“ WHERE YOUR DATA GOES — YOU CHOOSE šŸ  Your own website — upload one small file to your web space. TabbySync writes it for you, with an access code already inside. Nobody but you can read your data. This is the recommended setup, and setup takes about three minutes. šŸ™ Your GitHub account — free, nothing to host. TabbySync creates a private gist and keeps the file there. Step-by-step instructions are built into the settings page. ⚔ Just get me going — a free storage service (JSONBin.io) holds it. Quickest to set up, and no server of yours to run. Whichever you choose, there is no account with us, because there is no us to have an account with. New install? Click "Walk me through it" in the popup for a step-by-step guided setup — the same questions above, one at a time, with Back and Next. Or skip straight to Settings and fill it in yourself; either way ends up in the same place. šŸ”’ LOCK IT WITH A PASSWORD Turn on the password lock and your data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM on your computer before it is sent, so whoever stores it only ever holds text they cannot read. The password never leaves your device — type the same one on your other computers. šŸ“‘ BOOKMARKS Keeps your whole bookmark tree the same everywhere. Changes made on two computers are merged rather than overwritten, by a three-way merge with a test suite written specifically to catch silent data loss. • Syncs after a change, on a timer, or on demand • Deletions, edits, moves and reordering all sync • Save a backup to your own computer, plain or password-locked šŸ—‚ļø TABS Closes the tabs you are done with and saves them as a named list, freeing the memory they were holding. • One click, a keyboard shortcut, or right-click the icon — this tab, the others, or the ones to the left or right • Reopen one link, one list, or everything, on any of your computers • Reopen as ordinary tabs or as a browser tab group • Name, pin, lock and reorder your lists; search across every title and address • Anything deleted waits 30 days in "Recently deleted", and syncs there too Use one tool, use both, or turn either off. They share one destination, one access code and one name. šŸ›”ļø BUILT TO BE CHECKED, NOT TRUSTED āœ“ No analytics, no telemetry, no usage tracking of any kind āœ“ No history, webRequest or cookies permission — it cannot read your browsing āœ“ No content scripts — it never touches the pages you visit āœ“ Contacts no server operated by the developer, ever āœ“ Asks for access to your sync destination one address at a time, when you set it up — never a wildcard, and nothing at install time āœ“ Source published so it can be audited rather than taken on faith Every claim above is checked by an automated test that fails the build if the code stops matching it. The full privacy policy is linked below, and the source is at github.com/RyGull/TabbySync 🚦 CAREFUL WITH YOUR DATA, BY DESIGN • A sync that would delete most of the bookmarks in your browser stops and asks which copy is right, instead of applying it • Reopening a big list asks before it opens hundreds of tabs, and opens them in batches you can stop • Deleting your synced data takes typing DELETE, and then a confirmation • Nothing is uploaded until you have chosen where it should go šŸ–„ļø WORKS IN Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Opera — any Chromium browser on version 88 or newer. Free, and free of the usual reasons software is free.
