Letterboxd Toolkit Your Letterboxd diary is a record of everything you've watched. We turn it into the story of your taste. Open your Stats and your watched list becomes a full personal profile: the directors and actors you return to most, the crew and studios behind your favourites, the decades, genres, countries and languages that shape what you watch, how many hours you've spent in the dark, the films you rated higher — or lower — than everyone else, a world map of where your cinema comes from, and completion rings that show how far you've climbed the great canonical lists — the IMDb Top 250, Sight & Sound, the AFI 100 and more. It's the retrospective Letterboxd never gave you, built right into your own profile. And it isn't only a lifetime view. Switch the period to any year you've logged and the whole page re-reads for that year alone — your 2026, your 2019, each with its own header, its own poster wall and its own rhythm. Your year in review, on any day of the year, for every year you've been keeping the diary. On every film page we add two things Letterboxd doesn't: your friends' ratings — the average score from the people you follow, so you never have to dig through the "friends activity" tab — and the outside verdict, with IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores sitting right beside them. Your circle and the critics, in one glance. WHAT WE DO Stats • We turn your diary into a full stats page: your most-watched and highest-rated directors, actors, crew and studios, matched against cast & crew data from The Movie Database (TMDB). • We show your progress through the famous canonical lists — the IMDb Top 250, Sight & Sound's greatest films, the AFI 100, the 1,001 Movies to See Before You Die, Oscar Best Picture winners and more — as completion rings, so you can finally see the percentage you've watched and click straight through to whatever's left. • We break your library down — hours watched, films by year, your ratings distribution, top decades, and your top genres, countries and languages. • We surface the films you rated higher and lower than the Letterboxd community, and map out where in the world your films come from. • Switch any ranking between "Most Watched" and "Highest Rated," and click almost anything to jump straight to the matching page on Letterboxd. • It's one click from the nav bar, with a smooth loading animation and fast syncing even for large libraries. Your Year in Film • Pick a period — all time, or any year you've logged a film in — and every number, chart and ranking on the page re-reads for it. • A year gets its own header: diary entries, hours watched, your longest daily streak, the days you managed two films or more, and how many directors you saw. • Every film you watched that year, as a wall of posters, with the first and last of the year called out as milestones. • A week-by-week chart of your viewing rhythm across the year, so you can see the binges and the dry spells at a glance. • Your watch dates never leave your browser. We read them on your machine to work out the year, and they are never transmitted. Friends' Ratings • We add the average score from the users you follow, plus a rating distribution, right beneath the global ratings chart. • We style it pixel-for-pixel to match Letterboxd's dark theme and green stars — it looks native, not bolted on. • It works instantly as you click around the site, with no full-page reloads. External Scores • We put the IMDb rating, the Rotten Tomatoes score and the Metacritic Metascore on every film page, directly beneath your friends' ratings. • Each score is colour-coded by that site's own convention — fresh or rotten, green, yellow or red — so you can read the consensus at a glance without opening three more tabs. • The IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes scores link straight to the film's page on each site. • Every source has its own on/off switch. Not interested in Metacritic? Turn it off and it's gone. • Films the critics never covered simply show what exists — no empty rows, no "N/A" clutter. World cinema and older titles stay clean. Both tools • A minimalist popup lets you toggle each feature on or off, or set your username manually. • Runtimes read as hours and minutes, not "148 mins" — because nobody thinks in minutes. • We cache everything locally, so page loads stay snappy. • Tell us what to build next — there's a feedback link and an "Upcoming" list built right into the extension. PRIVACY & DATA Friends' Ratings is fully local. We only read the Letterboxd pages you're already viewing, using your active session, and compute everything right in your browser. Nothing ever leaves your machine. For Stats we send only the bare minimum, and only after you say yes. To tally your stats, we send our compute server an anonymous list of film identifiers plus your own star rating for each — nothing else. Never your name, your username, your email, or your login. The server returns your stats and stores nothing; your IP is never logged. We ask for your consent the first time, before anything is ever sent. Choosing a year changes nothing about that. Your watch dates stay on your device: we read your diary in your browser, work out which films belong to the year you picked, and send the same anonymous list we always would. The server is never told what year you are looking at, or when you watched anything. For External Scores, we send our server the identifier of the film page you're on — and nothing else. No username, no session, no history, nothing that could be traced back to you. Your browser never contacts IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic, so they receive nothing from you. Results are cached on your device for a day, so revisiting a film sends nothing at all, and switching all three sources off stops the lookups entirely. No ads, no analytics, no trackers, no data sales, ever. Your settings and cache stay strictly on your device. QUICK START Install the extension and log into your Letterboxd account. For Stats: click the Stats button in the nav bar, accept the one-time consent screen, and your stats build themselves. To see a single year: use the period button under your name and pick one. For Friends' Ratings and External Scores: open any film page — both load automatically under the main ratings chart. Click the extension icon anytime to toggle any tool or set your username.
