Understand your YouTube viewing with local history, channel groups, notes and recommendation controls.

YouTube Ledger helps you understand how you spend time on YouTube and organize the channels you want to follow. YOUR VIEWING, WITH CONTEXT See daily and weekly totals, with foreground playback, background audio and browsing shown separately. Review sessions, add purpose labels and keep notes about what you watched. Export a review prompt when you want to reflect on your viewing; Ledger does not connect to an AI service. CHANNELS YOU CHOOSE Organize creators into groups and browse their cached uploads. Enable optional YouTube lookups to check for new videos and load thumbnails. Track started and watched videos, or import seen-video evidence from a YouTube history export. Hide recommendations by default and reveal them when you choose. DISCOVER CHANNELS GETTING YOUR ATTENTION See channels you watch repeatedly without subscribing, and a separate list of channels YouTube repeatedly shows in your Home recommendations. Compare watch time, videos watched, appearances and shares of the recommendations Ledger actually observed. These are local observations, not access to YouTube's algorithm. View channel pictures and your last watched video's thumbnail when images are enabled. Check your subscriptions to keep those lists focused on unsubscribed channels. Choose Subscribe without leaving Discover, or ask YouTube not to recommend a channel. If that channel is not loaded, the request stays Pending for up to 30 days and can be cancelled before Ledger sends it when a matching recommendation appears. Saved requests remain available even with YouTube lookups off. Account-action permission can be enabled during setup or in Settings; each action still requires your choice. You can also reveal all recommendations or only those from subscribed channels; Ledger remembers your choice. FOUR THEMES Choose Retrowave, Frutiger Aero, Light green or Dark green. Animations can be switched off, and supported effects respect reduced-motion preferences. EASY SETUP Choose Use recommended setup to enable viewing history, YouTube lookups and images, automatic upload checks for your groups, and permission for account actions. It does not subscribe or block channels for you. Choose settings lets you adjust each option; Explore first opens Ledger with recording and connections off. LOCAL RECORDS AND BACKUPS History and notes are encrypted in your browser profile. No password is required to start. Without a password lock, Ledger opens automatically; someone who can use or copy the browser profile may be able to open your data. Add a password lock during custom setup or later in Settings, and save its recovery key. Existing password-protected profiles keep their access settings when updating. Full profile backups are encrypted. If you have no password lock, choose a password for each backup you export. Backups from protected profiles still need their original passphrase or recovery key. Keep the backup and its credential somewhere safe; the developer cannot recover them. If you use passphrase-only access, new opted-in viewing can still be recorded in encrypted form while locked. Unlock to review it and use saved groups and watch status. YOU CHOOSE WHAT CONNECTS No Ledger account, subscription, developer cloud service or analytics is included. Recording and optional connections start only after you accept your setup choices. You can change them in Settings. Optional lookups and images send individual video/channel identifiers and requests directly to YouTube or Google; your notes and complete history database are not uploaded. Subscription checks use your signed-in YouTube session. Subscribe and channel feedback use YouTube’s native controls only when you choose them; pending feedback may be sent later in an active tab. Optional Watch Later cleanup requires separate consent and confirmation before removing selected videos from your YouTube list. Individual day, group and review exports are readable files you choose to create and share. Only full profile backups are encrypted. Existing Firefox releases cannot open encrypted Chrome backups. This release does not include cross-browser sync or require a companion app. Ledger is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
