LeitnerPlus: Learn languages with YouTube & Netflix
Overview
Dual subtitles on YouTube and Netflix. Save words to LeitnerPlus flashcards and review them with spaced repetition.
Learn languages from the videos you already watch. LeitnerPlus adds dual subtitles and a hover dictionary to YouTube, YouTube Music and Netflix, and turns the words you add into flashcards in your free LeitnerPlus account. WATCH WITH DUAL SUBTITLES • See subtitles in the language you learn and in your own language at the same time. • Follow the whole video in the Transcript next to the player: the playing line is highlighted, every line has its translation, and a click jumps to it. • Pause, repeat and move line by line with the subtitle controls. LOOK UP ANY WORD • Hover a word in the subtitles to see its meanings in your language (provided by Google Translate) and the line it came from. • Read phonetics for Chinese (pinyin), Japanese (hiragana or romaji) and Korean (romanization). • Hear a word with your browser's built-in voices. ADD CARDS TO LEITNERPLUS • Add a word, a phrase or a whole line as a LeitnerPlus card with one click: press Add card in the hover card, or select text and press Add card. Already a card? Add example adds this line to it. • Each card keeps the moment it came from: the subtitle line, its translation and the time in the video, so you can go back to it. • Subtitles colour words by their card state, so you can see at a glance what is new, what you are learning and what you already know. • See all your cards in the Cards tab, with their state and the moment in the video; one click plays that scene again. • The toolbar icon shows how many cards are due; review them on leitnerplus.com or in the Practice tab. PRACTICE WITH THE VIDEO • Review: this video's due cards with the word blanked in its line, then Again, Hard, Good or Easy (spaced repetition). • Shadowing: a line plays, the video pauses, you repeat it out loud, and it continues. • Dictation: listen to a line and type the missing words. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS • Shift+V subtitles on/off, Shift+B sidebar, Shift+F search the Transcript. • Shift+A / Shift+R / Shift+D previous, repeat and next line; Shift+S adds the current line as a card. • In Review: Space reveals the answer, 1–4 grades it. All shortcuts can be changed in the settings. EXPORT SUBTITLES • Download the subtitles of a video as text, or, signed in to your free account, as CSV, JSON, HTML or an Anki deck (.apkg). WORKS ON • YouTube, YouTube Music (after you allow access to music.youtube.com) and Netflix, in Chrome and Edge on desktop. FREE AND PRIVATE • The extension and your LeitnerPlus account are free. • No analytics, advertising or tracking code.
