Paste your XML, open a file, drag a file onto the editor, or click "Load sample" to try it instantly. Files and pastes format automatically, so you see clean, readable XML in a single click. Everything runs locally in your browser — no account, no uploads, no tracking — and it even works offline. This release is a major upgrade, rebuilt on Manifest V3 with a modern, accessible interface, a much more capable viewer, and brand-new AI and OCR tools. MAJOR FEATURES • Four ways to view your document. Switch instantly between Tree, Text, Minified, and JSON. - Tree: a collapsible, color-coded structure. Fold any node, or use Expand all / Collapse all. - Text: a clean, pretty-printed version with consistent two-space indentation. - Minified: compact, one-line output for copying into code or configs. - JSON: the whole document converted to JSON. Copy and Save always match the view you're looking at. • Powerful search, including XPath. Find any text across the document with Ctrl+F, or switch the dropdown to XPath mode and query structurally, for example //book[@id]. Jump between matches with Enter / Shift+Enter or the up/down buttons, with a live match counter, and press Esc to clear. • Clear, precise error reporting. Invalid XML no longer fails silently. The exact line and column appear in a banner directly above the editor, with a "Go to line" button that jumps straight to the problem so you can fix it fast. • Conversion tools. View any XML as JSON or Minified, and turn pasted JSON into XML with the JSON → XML button. Mixed content and attributes are preserved so documents round-trip correctly. • Copy a node's path. Hover any element in the tree and click the "path" chip (or Alt-click the tag) to copy its XPath to the clipboard — perfect for writing queries and selectors. • On-device AI Assistant (private). Open the Tools drawer to Summarize the document, Explain its structure, or Ask questions about it, with answers that stream in as they're generated. This is powered by Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano, so your XML never leaves your device — no API key and no network calls. Requires desktop Chrome 138+ on supported hardware; the model downloads once on first use, and the tool degrades gracefully where it isn't available. • Image OCR, also on-device. Drop a screenshot or photo of XML or text into Tools and the built-in model extracts the text straight into the editor — again, entirely local. • Split view and dark mode. Toggle Split view to see source and formatted output side by side on wide screens, and switch between light and dark themes. Your preferences are remembered between sessions. • Built to handle big files. Large documents render lazily and default to a fast text view to keep the UI responsive, with a one-click "Show tree anyway" when you want the full structure. • Fully localized into 40+ languages. FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS IN THIS UPDATE • Migrated to Manifest V3 with a service-worker background for better performance, security, and long-term compatibility. • Reworked Save so it downloads instantly with a sensible default filename instead of interrupting you with a blocking prompt; you can still rename in the browser's save dialog. • More reliable clipboard copying, with an automatic fallback when the modern Clipboard API is unavailable. • More accurate search: matches hidden inside collapsed branches and placeholder text are no longer counted or scrolled to, and pressing Enter now always acts on the latest query rather than stale results. • Fixed re-loading the same file twice in a row, and added drag-and-drop loading directly onto the editor. • Pretty-printing now preserves the original XML declaration, comments, CDATA, and mixed-content ordering, and self-closes empty elements. • Added guardrails for very large documents to prevent the page from freezing. • Hardened against environments where local storage is blocked, so the app keeps working. PRIVACY XML Viewer requests no permissions and sends nothing to any server. Formatting, search, conversion, AI, and OCR all run on your device, and the extension works offline. The only outbound link is the optional "Open in Google Drive web app" button, which opens only when you choose to click it.
