English Test Coach: IELTS Writing Checker

Estimated IELTS writing band and next steps for text you select or paste, plus a word counter and Task 1/Task 2 timer.

Practise IELTS writing wherever you write. English Test Coach opens in Chrome's side panel next to any page, so you can draft in a document, an email or a website text box and check your work without switching tabs. WHAT IT DOES • Estimated band and what to revise next Select your essay on a page, right-click and choose "Check this writing with English Test Coach" (or paste it into the panel). Add the task question, pick Task 1 or Task 2 and Academic or General Training, and get an estimated band for each of the four writing criteria (task response or task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy), plus a short list of what to revise next and language to fix. Academic Task 1 checks include a picture of the chart, graph, map or diagram. • IELTS word counter Words, paragraphs, sentences and average sentence length as you type, measured against the 150 words Task 1 asks for or the 250 words Task 2 asks for. Right-click any selected text and choose "Count words (IELTS)" for a quick count. • Task 1 and Task 2 timer A 20-minute or 40-minute countdown, as in the test. The minutes left stay on the toolbar icon whatever page you are writing on, and the panel shows when time is up. • Vocabulary hints Words you repeat three or more times, and overused or informal words such as "a lot of", "thing" or "very", are highlighted in your answer with stronger options from English Test Coach's own lessons. YOUR ACCOUNT Checks use your English Test Coach account and the same allowance as the website: the free Starter plan includes 3 writing checks a month, and Pro includes more. Sign in inside the panel with a one-time code sent to your email, or with your password. Every check is saved to your private history on englishtestcoach.com, where you can open the full report. The word counter, timer and vocabulary hints work without an account. From Google Docs: Docs does not share selected text with extensions, so select all, copy and paste into the panel. PRIVACY • Nothing on a page is read unless you select it and choose an English Test Coach action. • Your writing is sent to English Test Coach only when you press "Get my estimated band", and it is kept private in your account, as on the website. • No analytics, advertising or tracking. The extension talks only to englishtestcoach.com. • Privacy notice: https://englishtestcoach.com/privacy#chrome-extension Bands are AI estimates to guide practice, not official IELTS scores.
