Overview
Turn any YouTube video into a ready-to-use ESL quiz. Generate comprehension questions and answer keys.
🎓 Turn Any YouTube Video Into a Ready-to-Use ESL Quiz VideoQuiz is the Chrome extension that saves ESL/EFL teachers hours of lesson prep by generating comprehension quizzes from any YouTube video. 📖 HOW IT WORKS 1. Open any YouTube video with captions 2. Click the VideoQuiz icon in the Chrome toolbar (pin it first if you have not) 3. Click Generate Quiz in the popup - VideoQuiz names the video it detected 4. Choose your settings (number of questions, type, difficulty, language) 5. Get your quiz, ready to use That first quiz needs no account, no signup and no API key. Install it and go. ✨ KEY FEATURES 🎯 Questions that test language, not just recall Our questions are written for ESL/EFL teaching: main ideas, details, vocabulary in context and inference, with the question itself pitched at the CEFR level you chose. Every question comes with plausible distractors and a one-line explanation. ⏱️ Written while you wait Click Generate Quiz in the popup for the video you are already watching. The finished quiz opens in the extension, ready to print, export or practise. ✏️ Fully editable Every question, option and answer can be changed, reword a question, swap a distractor, or mark a different answer as correct. 📤 Export anywhere - PDF with a printable layout and the answer key on its own page - Print/Save as PDF (best for non-Latin scripts) - Quizlet import file for flashcards - Google Forms: a CSV plus the script that builds a graded form - Plain text you can copy into Kahoot, Word or Google Docs The free plan exports PDF and print. Pro adds Copy, Quizlet and Google Forms. 🌍 17 output languages Write the quiz in any of 17 languages, chosen from a dropdown, useful when the video is in English but the class needs the questions in their own language, or the other way round. 💾 Works offline Your last 10 quizzes are saved locally in your browser. Reopen, reuse and re-export them any time, even without internet. 🔒 Your data stays yours Your saved quizzes live in your own Chrome profile. No analytics, no tracking. Captions are used once, to write the quiz, and are not stored afterwards. 🔑 NO ACCOUNT, NO KEY, NO SETUP Install it and write a quiz. The free plan writes up to 10 quizzes a month through the VideoQuiz service, so there is no OpenAI account to create and nothing to configure first. Pro is for teachers who want no monthly cap: VideoQuiz pays for the generation and you just use it, up to 30 quizzes a day for normal teaching, up to 20 questions per quiz instead of 5, and every export format. All four question types and all 17 output languages are on both plans. 👩🏫 WHO IT IS FOR VideoQuiz is built for the teacher who wants to use a real video tomorrow morning and does not want to spend the evening building a worksheet around it. It suits general English classes from A2 to C1, exam preparation where listening comprehension is tested, and content-led lessons built on a documentary or a talk. 💡 USE CASES 📺 TED Talks → Comprehension quizzes 🎬 Movie scenes → Short-answer discussion starters 📰 News clips → True/False warm-ups 🎓 Educational videos → Note-taking guides 📚 Documentary clips → Multi-level quizzes for mixed classes 💰 PRICING Free — $0 - 10 quizzes a month, written for you by VideoQuiz, no API key needed - Up to 5 questions per quiz - All four question types - All 17 output languages - PDF and print export - Last 10 quizzes saved offline Pro — $9.99 a month - No monthly cap for normal teaching (fair use: 30 quizzes a day) - Up to 20 questions per quiz instead of 5 - Every export format: Copy, Quizlet and Google Forms as well as PDF - Your allowance resets daily, not monthly - No OpenAI account and no key to paste — VideoQuiz covers the AI cost - 30-day refund There is no free trial: the free plan is free permanently, and Pro starts billing when you subscribe. Team plans are not built and not for sale. ❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Do I need an OpenAI API key? A: No. The free plan writes ten quizzes a month for you, and Pro removes the cap without ever asking for a key. There is no OpenAI account to create and nothing to configure before your first quiz. Q: What is the difference between Free and Pro? A: Three things. Free gives 10 quizzes a month, up to 5 questions each, and PDF or print export. Pro removes the monthly cap, raises the quiz to 20 questions, and unlocks the Copy, Quizlet and Google Forms exports. All four question types and all 17 output languages are on both plans. Q: What videos work with VideoQuiz? A: Any YouTube video with captions, auto-generated or manual. Live streams, YouTube Shorts and videos without captions are not supported. Q: Are the questions actually good? A: They're a strong first draft and every one is editable, so you can adjust the wording or the answer before you print it. Q: Can I use it for languages other than English? A: Yes, 17 output languages, so you can generate an English quiz from a Spanish video or vice versa. Q: Does it work on mobile? A: No. It's a Chrome extension, so it runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS. Mobile browsers do not support extensions. Q: Is my data safe? A: Your saved quizzes and settings stay in your own Chrome profile, and there is no analytics and no tracking of any kind. To write a quiz, the video's captions go to the VideoQuiz server, which forwards them to OpenAI to generate the questions and then keeps nothing: the captions are not logged and not stored, and the finished quiz is returned to your browser. We also keep a count of quizzes used this month, tied to a random installation id generated in your browser. It is a number, not a profile: no captions, no quiz contents and no email address are attached to it. Subscribing to Pro means an email address and a payment, handled by Lemon Squeezy as the merchant of record, so their privacy policy applies to that. 🔧 TECHNICAL DETAILS - Manifest V3 - No tracking and no analytics - Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers - Requires Chrome 116 or newer - Permissions requested: storage (to save your settings and quizzes), activeTab (to detect the YouTube video you are viewing), scripting (to install the extension's own content script into a tab that was already open) - Host access at install: youtube.com and m.youtube.com (to read captions), api.openai.com (to generate the quiz), and api.videoquiz.app (to write a quiz for you on the free allowance or Pro, and to check a licence). Nothing else is contacted. - One optional permission, `https://*/*`, is not requested at install. It is asked for only if you activate a Pro licence: the extension requests its licence server's origin at that moment instead of having that host declared up front. Decline it and Pro cannot be activated; nothing else changes. (In this build the licence server host is already covered at install, so Chrome grants that request without showing a prompt.) 📧 SUPPORT Questions, feedback or feature requests?
