Layout Guard
Overview
Warns with a sound when text appears typed using the wrong keyboard layout.
Layout Guard helps multilingual typists notice wrong keyboard layouts before they continue typing. If text entered in an editable field maps to a known word in another enabled layout, the extension plays a short warning sound. For example, typing "ghbdtn" with English keys can be recognized as the Russian word "привет", and "руддщ" can be recognized as "hello". Supported comparison layouts include Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, and Spanish, using English (US QWERTY) as the base layout. Languages can be enabled or disabled in settings. Features: - Live, word-complete, or combined detection modes - Configurable minimum word length, warning cooldown, and audio volume - Per-site exclusion list - Local detection test and sound test - Localized settings page in all supported languages Important limitations: - Works only in editable fields on ordinary web pages - Does not monitor the browser address bar, New Tab search field, or Ctrl+F find bar - Skips short, random, or already valid words to reduce unnecessary warnings Privacy first: all detection happens locally in the browser. Layout Guard has no telemetry, analytics, account system, advertising, remote APIs, or cloud processing.
