Overview

Monitor Google Tag Manager's dataLayer with visual event categorization and saving capabilities

DataLayer Monitor helps analysts, marketers, and developers inspect Google Tag Manager’s dataLayer and troubleshoot analytics implementations directly in Chrome. See events as they happen, explore their parameters, and follow activity across page navigation. Features - Live dataLayer monitoring: Capture pushes and inspect event data in JSON, flat, or formatted views. - Search and filtering: Find relevant events and mute noisy event types. - GA4 hit inspection: Inspect outgoing GA4 measurement requests, event parameters, ecommerce items, destinations, and available response statuses. - Persistent event history: Follow events across navigation within the same site. - Save and export: Save events locally and export them for debugging or documentation. - Custom dataLayers: Monitor custom dataLayer names alongside the default dataLayer. - GTM detection: Check detected Google Tag Manager containers. - Optional GTM Injection: Load a user-configured container on a specific website for testing. - Flexible interface: Use the popup or side panel, with light and dark themes. Useful for validating ecommerce tracking, checking event parameters, investigating missing or duplicate events, and reviewing GA4 requests. Privacy Captured monitoring data is processed and stored locally in your browser. We do not send captured events, analytics requests, or associated page information to our servers. No account is required, and we do not sell this data. The privacy disclosures describe information the extension handles to provide its debugging features: - Web history: Page URLs and timestamps associate events with the pages where they occurred. The extension does not access Chrome’s browsing-history database. - User activity: Analytics events and outgoing GA4 requests show the interactions reported by the inspected website. - Website content: Website-provided dataLayer payloads and analytics parameters are displayed for inspection. Captured payloads may contain personal or sensitive information supplied by the website. Review exported files before sharing them. You can clear captured records, delete saved events, disable monitoring, and restrict website access through Chrome’s extension settings. Optional GTM Injection downloads Google’s official GTM script only when enabled for the configured website origin. The selected container can fire real tags and send data to its configured destinations. Image previews may also contact the host of the displayed image.
