Layatab turns two ordinary YouTube tabs into a two-deck DJ mixer that floats over everything else. No hardware, no account, no upload — the audio never leaves the tabs it is already playing in. WHAT YOU GET • Two decks: assign any two open YouTube tabs from the setup page. • A floating mixer window (picture-in-picture) with crossfader, volume, 3-band EQ, pitch (±16 %), nudge, key lock and a per-deck BPM display. • Beat detection that reads the whole mix, tuned towards the kick, and anchors the grid on the kick's transient — the way your ear hears the beat. A second mode, KICK, analyses only the low end for hip hop, trip hop, drum & bass and busy basslines. • SYNC: locks the incoming track's beat grid to the master deck's. Turn it on for the transition, turn it off when it sits. • SHIFT slider and half-beat buttons for fine alignment by ear; TAP and HOLD when the detector has a hard time (breakbeat, dubstep, hip hop). • Headphone cue: pre-listen the next track on a second audio output (your headphones) while the room hears the master. Works with any USB or Bluetooth headset that shows up as a separate output device. • A live visualiser: both beat grids on top of each other plus the waveform, flowing downwards from now like a waterfall, so you can see the match, not just hear it. • Two colour schemes, Bright and Dark. • Ad handling: when YouTube plays an ad on a deck, the mixer tells you and ducks that deck; skippable ads are skipped the moment the Skip button appears (you can turn this off). HOW A TRANSITION GOES 1. Load the next track in the empty deck. Wait for the BPM to settle (a few seconds). 2. Press SYNC on that deck. The grids lock — the kick drums land together. 3. Bring it in with the EQ and the crossfader. Turn SYNC off once it sits; the tempo stays. 4. If anything flams, the SHIFT slider under the pitch moves it in 1 ms steps. PRIVACY, PLAINLY Everything runs inside your browser. Layatab stores your mixer positions, chosen audio devices and cue calibration locally (chrome.storage.local) so you don't redo the setup every session — you can turn that off in Settings, and then nothing is written at all. It never sends anything anywhere: no analytics, no accounts, no servers. There is an optional diagnostics view (off by default) that shows what the sync is doing on screen; it only leaves your machine if you copy and paste it yourself. WHY IT ASKS FOR THE MICROPHONE To list your audio outputs (for the headphone cue), Chrome only reveals device names after a one-time microphone permission on the YouTube page. Layatab asks for it once, reads the output list, and releases the microphone immediately. It never records or listens. PERMISSIONS • "Read and change data on youtube.com": only on the two tabs you assign as decks, only while they are assigned.
