Try LaneVertex with the free browser extension and the desktop app. Install the app from https://lanevertex.com/download/ — that is where you get LaneVertex for your computer. The extension then hands links from your browser to that app. LaneVertex adds "Send to LaneVertex" to the right-click menu of links. It works on magnet links, links to .torrent files and ordinary file links; .torrent and file links also get "Send .torrent to LaneVertex" and "Download with LaneVertex". One click hands the link to the LaneVertex desktop app on your computer, which downloads it with its own engine. Your browser does not have to keep a tab open or handle the file. The toolbar button lists the app's downloads with their real names and progress, and lets you pause or resume each one. A paused download continues where it stopped, also after the app restarts. If the app is not installed or not running, the toolbar popup shows a "Download LaneVertex" button that opens https://lanevertex.com/download/. • Works only when you choose it: nothing happens on its own, and no page is ever read. • Two permissions only: context menus and native messaging. • No data collection, no analytics, no network requests from the extension (opening the download page happens only when you click the button). • If the same link is sent twice, LaneVertex recognises it and does not start a second download. Requires the LaneVertex desktop app (macOS, Windows and Linux), which installs the small helper that the browser talks to.
