Krowded

Invites people to your events from your own Instagram, in your own browser.

Krowded is the browser extension for Krowded (https://getkrowded.com), an event outreach platform for DJs, promoters and venues. It sends your Krowded invitations from your own Instagram account, in your own browser. An active Krowded subscription is required. PURPOSE When you launch a campaign on the Krowded dashboard (user.getkrowded.com), this extension sends that campaign's invitations as Instagram messages, one at a time, from the Instagram account you are signed in to in Chrome. It does nothing unless you have launched a campaign. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension and sign in to your Krowded dashboard at user.getkrowded.com. 2. Sign in to Instagram in the same Chrome. Your dashboard shows your account as connected. 3. Launch a campaign on the dashboard. A small Krowded window opens and your invitations start going out. 4. Leave that window open, and keep your laptop open and plugged in. Carry on using your computer as normal. 5. Click the Krowded icon to see how many have gone, who is next and when. Press Stop, close the window, or pause the campaign on the dashboard to stop at any time. For each person in your campaign, the extension: • opens their Instagram profile in its own window • skips them if the account is private, inactive, a business, or cannot receive messages • looks through their profile and a post or two, and may occasionally like a post • asks Krowded to write your invitation to suit their profile, then types and sends it • waits several minutes before the next one, takes a longer break after every ten or so, and stops at your daily limit Before the first invitation of a session, it spends a minute on your Instagram feed, where it may view a story and like a post. DATA HANDLING This extension never reads, stores or sends your Instagram password, cookies or session. Your Instagram account stays in your browser: invitations are sent from it, in Chrome, by this extension. Specifically, this extension: • Reads which Instagram username you are signed in as, and sends it to your Krowded account so your dashboard can show you as connected. • Receives a sign-in for the Krowded service from your dashboard when you open user.getkrowded.com, and keeps it in Chrome's local extension storage so campaigns keep running when the dashboard is closed. • Reads the public profile of each person in your campaign (name, bio, follower and post counts, and the captions of posts it opens) to check they suit your campaign. The name, bio and captions are sent to Krowded only to write that one invitation. • Reports the result for each person (sent, skipped, or could not be sent) to your Krowded account, so your dashboard stays up to date. • Tells your Krowded account every few minutes that it is running, so your dashboard can show it. • Keeps a short activity log in Chrome's local storage, shown in the extension's popup. It does not read or send your other conversations. In the conversation with the person being invited, it only checks whether Instagram delivered the invitation. It types, clicks and sends only in its own window, never in tabs you are using. If you used Krowded Connector before, the Instagram session it stored in your browser is deleted the first time this version runs. Krowded's servers hold your Krowded account, your campaigns and their results, and the Instagram username you are connected as. Chrome does not let an extension keep a timer that long any other way. • power: to keep your computer and screen awake while a campaign is sending, so it does not fall asleep partway through. Released as soon as sending stops. • scripting: to run the extension's own script in the Instagram window it opened, and to reconnect to your dashboard after an update. • storage: to keep your campaign's progress and your Krowded sign-in on your computer. • tabs: to open and close the one window it sends from, and to notice when your Krowded dashboard is open. • Access to instagram.com: to open profiles, and to type and send your invitations. • Access to api.getkrowded.com: to receive your campaign and report each result. • Access to user.getkrowded.com: to receive your sign-in from your dashboard, and to know when you launch or pause a campaign.
