Defaults for YouTube

Sets your view mode, audio language, subtitles, speed and quality on every YouTube video you open.

YouTube forgets how you like to watch. Every video starts in the default size, at 1x speed, at whatever quality YouTube picks, and if the video has dubbed audio tracks it chooses one for you. Defaults for YouTube applies your own preferences instead, on every video you open. What you can set: • View — normal, theater, or fullscreen. • Audio — the original audio, or a dubbed track in the language you prefer, when the video offers one. • Subtitles — off, or a language of your choice, with YouTube's auto-translation as a fallback when that language is not available. You can also pick the colour of the subtitle text, which is handy when white gets lost against a bright video. • Speed — from 0.25x to 3x. • Quality — Auto, the highest available, or a fixed value from 2160p down to 240p. Out of the box it already keeps every video the same: theater mode, original audio, no subtitles, 1x speed and Auto quality. Change any of it in one click, or set a row to "—" to leave that one alone. You stay in control: if you change speed or quality by hand on a video, the extension does not override you again on that video. The popup has a language selector (English, Spanish), a dark/light switch and an on/off button. A hidden debug panel behind the "›" button shows what was detected and applied on the current video, which audio tracks and subtitle languages it offers, and which quality levels are available.
