Is this product really Indian? Kitna Indian gives you a score out of 100 on Amazon.in, Flipkart (including Flipkart Minutes), Blinkit and Zepto, and shows how it got there. A phone assembled in Tamil Nadu from imported displays and chips is not the same as a pressure cooker forged in Hosur. A yes/no "Made in India" label treats them the same. Kitna Indian doesn't. HOW THE SCORE WORKS Kitna Indian = 50% Manufacturing + 30% Assembly + 20% Design & R&D - Manufacturing: where the components and raw materials are made - Assembly: where the final product is put together - Design & R&D: where the brand, IP and product design come from Every score falls into a band: - 80-100: Strongly Indian - 55-79: Substantially Indian - 30-54: Mixed Origin - 0-29: Largely Foreign - Not Enough Data: shown instead of a made-up number WHAT YOU GET - Product pages: a badge next to the product with the score, a breakdown by pillar, the evidence used, and how confident the estimate is. - Search results: a small score on every result, so you can spot the Indian options without opening ten tabs. - Quick commerce: works on Blinkit, Zepto and Flipkart Minutes as well as the main marketplaces. On Blinkit, open "View more details" and the score updates with the product's country of origin. - Toolbar: the current product's score on the extension icon, with details in the popup. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT KNOWS Signals are ranked by how far they can be trusted: 1. A curated list of 181 brands common in Indian shops and quick-commerce apps, from phones and appliances to shampoo, detergent, dairy and snacks. Each has figures for every pillar, a written reason, a source link and a confidence level. 2. The Country of Origin declared on the listing. 3. The manufacturer, packer or importer address. An Indian importer counts against a product, because it means the goods came from abroad. 4. The GS1 barcode prefix. This is a weak signal, only ever used for the design pillar, and the badge says so. Search results only show a title, so their scores are marked "est." (estimated from the brand). Once you open a product, its measured score is remembered and replaces the estimate next time. When there is no brand match, no score is shown, because a grey zero would wrongly suggest "not Indian". If you think a score is wrong, use the Report button on the badge.
