Overview
An automated LLM-based Go game commentary generator
BETA — this extension is under active development. The account and OGS integration work; the in-panel commentary flow is still being finished. Feedback welcome at github.com/YianXie/Kifu-Sensei/issues Every Go review tool tells you that your move lost 8 points. None of them tell you why. Kifu-Sensei adds move-by-move commentary in plain English to your online-go.com games. Open a finished game, click the toolbar icon, and a side panel walks you through your biggest mistakes — what went wrong, what the alternative was, and what idea you missed. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open any finished game or review on online-go.com. 2. Click the Kifu-Sensei icon to open the side panel. 3. KataGo, the strongest open-source Go engine, scans every move to find the positions where the game actually turned. 4. Those positions get a deep second analysis — win rate, score, territory ownership, and the engine's preferred continuations. 5. Claude turns that data into a few sentences of readable commentary for each key move. 6. Step through the commented moves in the panel, right next to the board. WHO IT'S FOR Kifu-Sensei is built for kyu-level players — the DDK and SDK range where you can see that a move was bad but not understand what you should have been thinking instead. Commentary is written at that level: no jargon walls, no assumptions about reading strength. WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT AI Sensei, KaTrain, ZBaduk, and OGS's own analysis all give you numbers: win rate graphs, score deltas, blue and red move markers. They are excellent at telling you where you went wrong. They cannot tell you why, and most players end up nodding along at a graph they don't really understand. Kifu-Sensei closes that gap. The commentary is grounded entirely in what the engine actually computed — the board position, the ownership map, the principal variations — rather than plausible-sounding tactical stories. If the data doesn't support a claim, it doesn't get made. WORKS WITH YOUR KIFU-SENSEI ACCOUNT The extension shares an account with the Kifu-Sensei web app at kifu-sensei.ai. Sign in once on the website and the session is handed to the extension automatically. Your review history and settings stay in sync across both. If you'd rather upload SGF files directly, or download an annotated SGF with the commentary embedded, the web app does that too. FINISHED GAMES ONLY Kifu-Sensei will not analyze a game in progress. This is deliberate and non-negotiable: the extension activates on completed games and reviews only. It is a study tool, not a cheating tool. PRIVACY The extension reads game data from the online-go.com pages you open and communicates with the Kifu-Sensei backend to generate commentary. It does not track your browsing, and it does not run on any site other than online-go.com and kifu-sensei.ai.
