Personal Web Sentry
Overview
A new home screen simplifies browsing. Admin-defined guardrails decide which sites open quietly, stay closed, or warn.
Their computer, your boundaries. Personal Web Sentry is a Chrome extension for one computer. The home screen shows a greeting, the time, today’s plans, and the weather, on a calming background picture. Bookmark Favorites lists the starred sites and starts closed. The other bookmarks are in Chrome’s side panel. You are the admin on that same computer. You choose which sites open quietly, which sites never open, and what happens when a new site is opened. The lists stay on that computer, behind a PIN. Settings, which does not ask for the PIN, holds the picture, a short quote, one U.S. town for the weather, and one secret calendar address. Today shows the time and the title. Those plans are not saved. An unfamiliar link stops before the page opens. A blocked site stays closed. If you choose only approved sites, there is no button to continue. A note covers a page that uses the language of a lockup, a tech-support call, or a gift-card demand. The words on the page are not saved. Chrome’s own Safe Browsing still runs.
