AI Off Switch — Less AI, more choice

AI Off Switch helps you control how much AI interface clutter you see on the web. Hide recognised AI summaries, assistant buttons, writing prompts, upgrade invitations, explicitly disclosed AI review summaries and AI suggestions on websites you allow. YOUR CHOICES, WEBSITE BY WEBSITE • Keep separate choices for hiding AI features and optional text signals. • Pause a website for ten minutes, or pause AI Off Switch everywhere. • Restore hidden interfaces by turning hiding off. • Select an extra distracting element yourself, confirm hiding, and undo or restore it later. COVERAGE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND Dedicated filters cover recognised Google Search AI Overviews and AI Mode links, Bing AI answers and Copilot entry points, and YouTube Ask/conversational panels. Gmail and other websites use explicitly labelled AI controls where recognised. Filters depend on website layout and language; they do not catch every AI feature. Ordinary customer reviews and recommendations are not automatically targeted. OPTIONAL TEXT SIGNALS — EXPERIMENTAL Text signals are off by default. When enabled, AI Off Switch samples readable English passages of at least 80 words as you scroll and can add a “Possible AI writing” label. Open a label to see the exact sampled excerpt, or dismiss it. These signals can flag human writing and miss AI writing. They are not proof of authorship, a quality judgement, or a verification that unlabelled writing is human. Only a sample is assessed. Forms, typed drafts, editable regions and code are excluded. Recognised mail and private workspaces require an additional explicit text-analysis opt-in. LOCAL PROCESSING The extension reads webpage structure and relevant text on allowed websites to provide these features. Current page URLs/domains are used locally to apply the correct controls. Website choices, pause settings and your manual element selectors are stored locally. Page text and detection results stay in temporary memory and are not uploaded by the extension. There are no accounts, advertising, analytics or remote text-analysis services. The complete extension includes the classifier and runtime. An optional model-download action retrieves fixed model assets from Hugging Face; it sends no browsing text. Issue reports are downloaded to your device and submitted only if you choose to share them yourself. IMPORTANT LIMITS AI Off Switch changes what you see on a webpage. It does not disable a website's backend AI processing or change its privacy settings. Browser toolbar features, native apps, images, video text, PDFs, closed shadow roots and embedded frames are outside coverage. English text analysis remains experimental. No login, subscription or API key is required in this version.
