Overview

Scores X posts for outrage and blurs/hides them with CSS. Fully local (no external requests), multilingual.

Blur or hide inflammatory "outrage" posts on X (x.com / twitter.com) and keep your timeline calm. Everything runs on your device. A bundled dictionary and heuristics score each post from 0.00 to 1.00; at or above your threshold the post is blurred with a reason badge and a "Show" button, or hidden completely. No account, no API key, no analytics, no network requests — post text is never stored or sent anywhere. ■ What you can adjust (popup) • Threshold (0.30–0.90), hiding style (blur / fully hide), reason badge on/off • Per-category toggles: attack, hostility, incitement, absolutes, othering, cynicism, urgency, profanity, tone/style, self-mockery, AI debate vs AI tech, NSFW, world affairs, politics, conspiracy, disaster • Focus presets: Gentle / Normal / Strict (also avoids long posts and replies) • Language mute: hide every post in one language you don't read • User dictionary: add your own mute words (edited in a separate window) • Exclude your own posts; optionally quiet the notification / DM badges and the notifications tab • Shift+1 on PC toggles the extension instantly ■ How to use Open x.com. Posts scoring at or above the threshold are blurred (or hidden). Click "Show" to reveal one; the "Mute" button on a revealed post hides it again. The bar in the bottom-right shows how many posts are hidden and lets you show/hide all or pause. ■ Language support 52 dictionary packs (Japanese, English, Simplified/Traditional Chinese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, and major European, Middle Eastern, South Asian and Southeast Asian languages) with automatic detection by writing system, plus 49 UI locales. ■ Privacy and permissions Only the "storage" permission is requested — used for your settings and a local counter of hidden posts in chrome.storage.local. The extension declares no host permissions, exposes no file to web pages, contains no remote code, and makes no network requests. Uninstalling removes its local data. Privacy policy: https://github.com/yomiplush/outrage-mute/blob/main/PRIVACY.md ■ Notes • Manifest V3; works in Chrome and Chromium-based browsers. • Dictionary-based, so euphemisms and sarcasm outside the dictionary may be missed. It never judges whether a post is "correct" or its author. • Unofficial extension. Not affiliated with X Corp.
