CardGenius — Smart Card Recommendations
Overview
Recommends the best credit card at checkout: rewards (in $ or points), rotating categories, protections, and points-pooling.
CardGenius tells you which credit card to use at checkout, so you stop guessing and stop leaving rewards behind. When you reach a cart or checkout page, CardGenius reads the order total on the page, checks the cards you told it you carry, and shows a small recommendation box with the card that gives you the most value on that purchase, plus the runners-up. HOW IT DECIDES Net value = rewards + purchase protection + any synced offers − your card's daily annual-fee share. It is not just the headline rate. A premium card has to earn its fee; a no-fee card can win. WHAT YOU GET • Net-value ranking of the cards in your wallet, with a plain-language "Why this card" breakdown • Rewards shown in dollars or in the card's own points/miles (one-tap switch) • Rotating and choose-your-own categories (Discover it, Chase Freedom Flex, Bank of America Customized Cash, US Bank Cash+), updated for Q4 2026 • Spending-cap awareness: bonus rate up to the cap, base rate after • Purchase protection valued conservatively and only where it applies • Points pooling for the Chase Ultimate Rewards family • 238 cards across 11 countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, each shown in its local currency • Foreign-currency shops: if a site charges in a different currency than your cards, CardGenius converts the total using live public exchange rates and tells you it did • Nearby places (optional, off by default): see which of your cards to use at the shops and restaurants around you, from the toolbar popup, with optional alerts when you are close to a good pick • Personalized Offers (optional, off by default): bring your Chase and American Express offers into the recommendation. Expired offers are ignored, and CardGenius shows how long ago you last synced • Modern light, dark and system themes; works on phones and small windows • Search and filter the card list by segment, card issuer and payment network; see your wallet and total annual fees at a glance PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Your cards, settings and saved offers stay on your device. CardGenius never asks for card numbers. • No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, no data sold or shared. • On shopping sites it only activates on pages that look like a cart, checkout, payment, order, shipping or billing page. • Exchange rates: a public lookup, made only when a shop's currency differs from your cards'. It contains currency codes and nothing about you or your purchase. • Nearby places is opt-in and asks for your permission first. Your location is read only when you open the Nearby tab (or, if you turn on alerts, about every 10 minutes), rounded to roughly 110 m, and sent to OpenStreetMap's public Overpass service to find nearby shops. Your cards, wallet and offers are never sent. • Offer sync is opt-in, per bank, and needs your permission for that bank's site. By default it only reads offers already shown on your account page. A separate switch, off by default, can also click the bank's own "activate" or "Add to Card" button for you. SET UP IN A MINUTE 1. Install, then pick your country and the cards you carry. 2. If you have a rotating-category card, tell CardGenius this quarter's category. 3. Shop as usual. The recommendation appears at checkout. GOOD TO KNOW CardGenius provides estimates for information only, not financial advice. Rates, caps, point values, protections and fees change; your card agreement always governs. Exchange rates are reference rates and do not include your card network's rate or any foreign transaction fee. It cannot see how much of a cap you have already used. Offer values come from what the bank's page shows and are best-effort, so confirm an offer is live with your bank. Location on a desktop browser is often only approximate. Some bonus structures (for example mobile-wallet-only or previous-month-spend bonuses) are not modeled; each card's data notes these where relevant. CardGenius is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any card issuer, payment network, mapping service or retailer. Names are used only to identify products.
