Overview
Audit and compress the images on any page — entirely on-device. No upload, no API key, no account.
Every website is heavier than it needs to be, and images are almost always the reason. CompressFile — Image Audit shows you exactly which images on a page are wasting bytes, how much you'd save by fixing each one, and then compresses the ones you pick — all on your own device. Open the side panel on any page and it scans every image: not just the obvious <img> tags, but responsive srcset/<picture> variants, CSS background images, images inside shadow-DOM components, favicons, and Open Graph images. For each one it tells you precisely what's wrong and what it's worth: • Oversized — a 3840×2160 file displayed at 640×360. Resize and save the difference. • Wrong format — a JPEG or photographic PNG that should be WebP or AVIF. • Under-compressed — an image encoded far heavier than it needs to be. You get the whole picture at a glance: total page image weight, the total saving if every image is fixed, and an estimated load-time improvement on mobile. Then pick the fixes you want and hit Compress & Download for a ZIP (with a before/after report), or grab any single image from its own download button. Why it's different — everything runs on your device. Unlike server-based tools, this extension never uploads your images. It bundles the same WebAssembly codecs used by Squoosh and runs them locally in your browser. There is no backend, no API key, and no account
