Waffle Lens
Overview
Read CSV, TSV, JSON and Luau table data on GitHub as clean tables, diffs included. One button, no setup, no third-party sharing.
Waffle Lens — See GitHub through a clearer lens. Waffle Lens turns CSV, TSV, JSON, NDJSON and Roblox Luau (.luau) table data on GitHub, and the diffs of those files, into clean readable tables. A "Table" button appears in the file header. Press it and the raw text becomes a table. Press it again and you are back to GitHub's own view. Reviewing a data file usually means counting commas and matching braces by eye. This extension does that part for you, so code review is about the change itself. WHAT IT DOES - File pages: your data file appears as a clean, readable table, right on the page - Diffs: pull requests, commits and compare pages - Deleted and added rows are matched by their key column, so an edited record is one row with the old and the new value next to each other - A trailing newline added or removed at the end of the file gets its own line in the table, marked the same way as an added or removed row - Within an edited cell, only the exact text that changed is strongly highlighted - Added and removed columns are marked in the header - Files committed with unresolved conflict markers become a table of the two candidate sides, so you can see which records are still open - In JSON and Luau table data, `null`, a missing key and an empty string get distinct muted labels - Rows collapsed by the diff can be expanded in place - Wide tables scroll with the header row kept in view - Follows GitHub's light and dark theme - Works on GitHub Enterprise as well as github.com GOOD TO KNOW - If a file cannot be built into a table, no button appears. A button that does nothing is worse than no button - A table built from conflict markers compares the two sides of the conflict, not the change against the base branch. The table says so above it - Cells are shown as text, so 1 and "1" look the same PRIVACY Waffle Lens does its work inside your browser. It does not collect or store data, and it does not send file contents or usage data to the developer or any third party. To also work on GitHub Enterprise (GitHub self-hosted on your own domain), it can run on any site, but it checks for a page fingerprint shared by github.com and GitHub Enterprise Server and does nothing on any other site. Its only network requests go to the GitHub host you are already on, to fetch the raw text of the file you are already viewing.
