Keyboard Shortcuts — take control of Chrome from the keyboard Keyboard Shortcuts lets you drive your browser entirely from the keyboard. Bind your own hotkeys to 40 browser-level commands covering tab management, window management, zoom, page scrolling, and one-key access to Chrome's internal pages. Chrome only ships a handful of fixed shortcuts and won't let you rebind most of them — this extension fills that gap, and it does so without asking for access to your browsing data. This 4.0 release is our biggest update yet: a brand-new shortcut dashboard, fifteen new commands, a full options page, and a long list of reliability fixes. WHAT'S NEW IN 4.0 A live shortcut dashboard. Open the toolbar popup and you now see every command and the exact keys bound to it, pulled live from Chrome. Unbound commands are clearly flagged, and a counter shows how many of your shortcuts are set. No more digging through settings to remember what the extension can do — and one click still takes you straight to the shortcut editor. Fifteen new commands: • Switch to last-used tab — flip between your two most recent tabs with a single key. • Reopen last closed tab — bring back the tab you just closed. • Close other tabs, close tabs to the right, and close tabs to the left — clear a cluttered window instantly, while pinned tabs are always kept. • Move the current tab to a new window, and merge all your windows into one. • Zoom in, zoom out, and reset zoom on the current page. • Copy the current page URL straight to your clipboard. • Scroll to the top, scroll to the bottom, page up, and page down — all from the keyboard. These join the commands you already rely on: select the previous or next tab, move a tab left, right, to first, or to last, unload (discard) a tab to free memory, reload, duplicate, pin or unpin, mute or unmute, close, open a new tab, go back, go forward, open a new window or a new incognito window, and quick-open for Extensions, Extension Shortcuts, Downloads, Settings, History, Bookmarks, Help, and Flags. An options page. Fine-tune the extension to fit the way you work: • Turn wrap-around on or off for selecting and moving tabs. • Enable a badge flash so you get visible confirmation when an otherwise invisible action fires — handy for discard, mute, or copy URL. • Choose to skip the welcome and uninstall pages entirely. • Flip a single switch to enable "Reopen last closed tab." RELIABILITY AND QUALITY FIXES We went through the extension end to end and fixed everything we found: • The Reload command was mislabeled as "Unload tab from memory" in every language, so it was dangerously easy to bind the wrong one and lose your page. It is now correct and properly translated across all 43 languages. • The default hotkeys no longer hijack the word-by-word cursor movement you rely on inside text fields — the single most common complaint is gone. • Tab reordering now respects the pinned and unpinned regions correctly when it wraps around the ends. • The command dispatcher is hardened, so a shortcut fired while a DevTools or app window is focused can no longer be silently dropped. • New incognito window now detects when the extension isn't allowed in incognito mode and guides you to the right setting instead of doing nothing. • The "new" badge shown after installing is finally visible instead of transparent. • Leftover text and dead code from an unrelated product were removed, and every page now loads over a secure HTTPS connection. PRIVACY YOU CAN TRUST What has always set this extension apart is what it does NOT ask for. Installing Keyboard Shortcuts shows no permission warnings at all. It requests no access to your browsing history and no access to the content of the websites you visit. The new copy-URL and page-scrolling commands use Chrome's activeTab model, which grants access only to the single tab you are on, and only at the moment you press the shortcut — nothing is ever read in the background. The one optional permission is for "Reopen last closed tab," and you turn it on yourself, from the options page, only if you want it. No analytics. No tracking. No account required. No content scripts running quietly on your pages. Just the shortcuts you choose, doing exactly what their labels say.
