Kero Translate brings bilingual captions and comment translation to YouTube Live and archived streams. Follow original speech with translated captions during live streams or while watching archives. Draft live chat comments in another language and check their meaning before posting. • Live and archive captions: View original speech transcripts and translated captions for the audio currently playing. • Transcription-only mode: Display original speech as captions without requesting translation. • Comment translation: Draft YouTube Live chat messages, translate them, and review the results. • Meaning check: Back-translate your comments to help check their meaning and nuance. • Safe chat insertion: INSERT fills the YouTube chat input but never sends messages automatically. You review and post them yourself. • Archive controls: Use the caption-only panel in chat replay to start or stop captions and adjust request spacing and caption hold time. Comment translation and INSERT are available only in live chat. • Customizable display: Adjust caption size and position, choose a dark or light panel theme, and minimize the panel when you need more space. Using captions with archives Play the video, then select Start captions in the chat replay panel or extension toolbar popup. Chrome may require the first capture on a tab to start from the toolbar popup. If chat replay is unavailable, use the popup. Captions process the audio currently playing; this is not a whole-video transcription or subtitle download. Seeking or reaching the end stops caption processing to prevent old translations from appearing at the new position. Select Start captions again after seeking. Pausing the video alone does not close the recognition session. Select Stop when taking a longer break. Requirements Chrome 116 or later, an internet connection, and your own API keys from supported providers. Speech recognition and translation providers can be selected independently. Provider charges, quotas, and model availability may apply. Kero Translate does not include a free translation allowance. Privacy and data handling After you consent in Settings and start captions, audio from the selected tab is sent directly to your chosen speech recognition provider. Recognized text is sent to your translation provider when caption translation is enabled. Live chat comment drafts are automatically sent for translation after a typing pause, before INSERT or posting. API keys are stored locally with encryption and automatic unlocking. The unlock key is stored in the same Chrome profile. See the privacy policy for details and limitations. Beta notice Kero Translate is currently in beta. Speech recognition and translation may contain errors. Review important text before posting. In some setups, Ambient light for YouTube can cause unreadable chat colors in fullscreen. If this occurs, disable that extension and reload YouTube. A compatibility fix is not included in this version. Kero Translate is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
