Overview

Reads page text aloud from the selected word using a local MLX Audio TTS server.

Nuvoread is a local browser reader for Chromium. Select a word on a page, press play, and Nuvoread reads forward from that point using a local MLX Audio text-to-speech server running on your Mac. The extension adds a compact floating reader control to webpages, highlights the current sentence and word during playback, and lets you adjust speech speed from the page. The options page stores the local server URL so you can point the reader at your own local TTS endpoint. Nuvoread requires the companion local MLX Audio server to be installed and running at http://127.0.0.1:9876 by default. Without the local server, the extension will show that the server is unavailable and will not generate audio. Nuvoread does not use a developer-operated cloud service, advertising, analytics, or account system. Page text selected for reading is sent only to the local server URL configured by the user.
