Overview
Unofficial DEV New Tab with reading lists, article overviews and optional on-device AI. Not created by the DEV team.
Make every new tab a starting point for the DEV community. DEV New Tab brings article discovery, your reading list, and useful shortcuts into one clean space. Explore public stories without an account, or use your existing DEV login for personalized and account-backed features. No API key or separate Axrisi account is required. DISCOVER YOUR NEXT GOOD READ • Browse For you, Curated, Latest, Top, and Following feeds. • Hide DEV quick posts using their explicit post type, while keeping genuine short articles and saved/history items. Change the preference whenever you want. • Search articles and explore topics such as JavaScript, web development, AI, and open source. • Scan clear headlines, author details, tags, reading time, and discussion links. KEEP USEFUL ARTICLES CLOSE • Save and remove articles from your DEV reading list. • Like and unlike articles on DEV. • Keep separate local saves, revisit articles you opened through the extension, and hide or restore articles. READ WITH OPTIONAL ON-DEVICE AI • Open article previews with source links and previous/next navigation. • Read a short paragraph overview based on complete public article text, with the full story remaining on DEV. • See the author’s public bio, use DEV’s five reactions, save articles, and share their original links. Public profiles warm after feed loading and reuse a 30-day browser-local cache. • Select exactly the passage you want to share: snapshot it, copy it with the source, or copy just its text. The menu keeps full-overview actions too. • Save readable, content-sized DEV-themed image cards with article and author attribution. • Prepare 3 or 5 visible-card overviews, use hover/focus preparation, opt into sequential preparation of all fetched articles, or turn preloading off. Only already-ready models are used. • Overviews appear only in opened previews, keeping the feed grid stable. Started generation continues through preview closing and feed switching. • Reuse cached overviews across browser restarts. Choose 7, 14, or 30 days for ordinary articles, and longer retention for saved articles and reading history. • Control individual AI features in Preferences. Features default on, but model setup requires an explicit action. Browser, hardware, model, and language support vary. • AI processing runs on your device with native browser APIs. There is no publisher AI server, API key, or cloud AI fallback. Unsupported browsers keep the ordinary feed and original DEV links. MAKE THE SPACE YOURS • Switch between Light, Dark, and System appearance. • Collapse the sidebar to give the feed more room. • Choose a comfortable grid or compact list. • Add your own shortcuts, which open in the current tab, and favorite topic shortcuts. • Adjust article previews, hide-read behavior, and link opening in Preferences. BUILT FOR THE NEW TAB PAGE Saved presentation settings are applied before the interface appears. Cached feeds stay useful through temporary connection problems, and a clear offline state shows when cached content is being used. ACCOUNT AND PRIVACY The extension uses your existing DEV session in the same browser profile. Saves and reactions run directly in the extension worker without opening helper pages. Only an explicit Sign in action opens DEV's login page. Public article-body and author-profile requests omit credentials. Local settings and libraries stay in the browser, while DEV requests/actions go directly to DEV. Article bodies use bounded session caches. Account-scoped overviews persist locally for 7 days by default, or 180 days for saved/history articles, within 500-entry/1.5-MB caps. Public author display profiles, including optional self-reported location, persist for 30 days within separate 500-profile/1-MB caps. Preferences can change overview retention, disable AI/caching, or clear AI/body data; the separate public author cache expires or can be removed with extension data. A daily alarm removes expired overview/profile data without running inference. Your browser may download AI models after an explicit action. The extension has no publisher-operated tracking, advertising, or AI-processing service. This extension replaces Chrome's New Tab page. Disable or remove it in Chrome's Extensions manager to restore the default page or another enabled New Tab extension. Published by Axrisi.
