Timer for Google Chrome™ 3.2 — What's New This is the biggest update this extension has ever had. We rebuilt how timers work from the ground up, fixed twenty bugs — including three that could stop a timer ringing altogether — and added the features people asked for most. YOUR TIMERS NO LONGER DISAPPEAR Until now every timer lived inside its browser tab. Close that tab, or reload it by accident, and the timer vanished without warning. If you had set an alarm, it simply never rang. This was our most common complaint, and it is fixed. Timers are now saved the moment you create them and are looked after by the extension itself rather than by the page. Close the tab, open a new window, or restart Chrome entirely — your countdown keeps counting, and it still rings. TIMERS RING ON TIME, EVEN IN A BACKGROUND TAB Chrome deliberately slows down tabs you are not looking at, to save battery. The old version depended on that tab to keep time, so a timer running behind other windows could finish up to a minute late. Timers are now scheduled by the extension's background service with three independent safeguards, including a catch-up check that immediately rings anything that came due while your computer was asleep. A five-minute timer now takes five minutes, whatever else you are doing. RUN MORE THAN ONE TIMER AT ONCE Starting a new timer used to silently destroy the one already running. You can now run twenty at once — a countdown for the oven, a work session and a stopwatch, side by side. Each gets its own card, name and controls. EVERYTHING ELSE WE FIXED Clicking Pause, Resume or Stop on a freshly opened page used to do nothing at all, because those buttons were active before any timer existed. They now appear only when there is something to control. A countdown set to 00:00:00 used to sit doing nothing forever, with no alarm and no sign it had failed. It is now refused with a clear message. The alarm clock accepted impossible times such as 12:75, quietly turning them into 13:15 while still showing what you typed. Every field is now checked and corrected as you set it. An alarm set across a daylight-saving change could ring an hour early or late. Alarm times are now worked out from the calendar rather than by adding 24 hours, so 7:30 means 7:30 whatever the clocks do. If the alarm sound failed to play — muted device, missing output, browser restrictions — you got no warning at all. Sound is now always paired with a desktop notification and an on-screen alert, so a silent failure cannot hide. Clicking the toolbar icon opened a new timer page every time, leaving a pile of duplicate tabs competing over the same title. It now returns you to the page you already have open. A paused timer used to show the current time of day in the tab title, making it look as though the timer had vanished. The paused value now stays visible, and the title updates once a second instead of twenty, so it is readable. The stopwatch could briefly show an impossible reading such as 3.100 seconds. Timer digits also fell back to the wrong font because of a typo in our stylesheet, and now sit steady as the numbers change. We found and fixed a translation error affecting eleven languages: the word "Resume" had been machine-translated as the noun meaning a curriculum vitae, so the button that continues your timer read "Curriculum Vitae" in Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian and Greek among others. Urdu showed "English languages" where it should have said "Stopwatch". All 43 languages have been reviewed and completed. The page now announces itself correctly to screen readers, labels every field, and follows your language's text direction. WHAT'S NEW Desktop notifications when a timer finishes, with Snooze and Dismiss buttons you can use without switching windows. A countdown on the toolbar icon so you can see the time remaining at a glance, and a popup that starts a common timer in one click. One-click presets you can edit yourself, and a Pomodoro mode that moves between work and break periods automatically. Names for your timers, so "Pasta" and "Stand-up" are not just two identical circles. Repeating alarms for chosen days of the week, snooze, and four alarm sounds plus silent, with volume and ring-length settings. A stopwatch that can finally be reset, and that records lap times. A dark theme that follows your system, a distraction-free full-screen view, and keyboard shortcuts for starting, pausing and resetting. PRIVACY Timer for Google Chrome™ has no account and no tracking. Nothing you do leaves your computer, and the extension works entirely offline. It asks only for the permissions it needs to ring on time: alarms, notifications, sound playback and local storage.
