Overview

Karaoke overlay for YouTube: singer rotation, search, per-song key/pitch, play/pause, drag & drop queue, skip ads.

Turn any YouTube video into a smooth karaoke session. YouTube Karaoke Extension adds a clean, draggable overlay on top of YouTube that helps you run singer rotations, queue songs, and keep the party flowing—without juggling spreadsheets or tabs. Whether you’re hosting a bar night, a house party, a meetup, or just singing with friends, this extension keeps everything organized and on-screen where you need it. After installing, click the extension icon (or press Alt+K) to show/hide the overlay. Add your singers, paste a YouTube link (or search directly), and queue songs in seconds. The queue supports drag-and-drop reordering and a round-robin mode that automatically advances to the next singer, so everyone gets their turn. A built-in progress bar with current and total time makes it easy to skip ahead or jump to the chorus, while the current track is clearly highlighted so you always know who’s up next. The overlay is intentionally minimal but powerful. You can save lineups (with timestamped names) for recurring events, load them later, and delete the ones you no longer need. The interface remembers where you placed it and whether it was hidden, so your setup stays consistent across songs and sessions. Controls like Play/Pause, Previous/Next, and Seek are always at your fingertips, and each queued item shows a thumbnail and title to help you navigate at a glance. To keep the vibe uninterrupted, the extension mutes YouTube ads and pushes playback to the maximum possible speed while ads run. When the video resumes, your original volume and speed are restored automatically. If a skip button appears, the extension also tries a safe, lightweight click—no aggressive scripts—so you aren’t stuck waiting. All logic runs locally in your browser; the extension does not require an API key and does not call external servers. Searches leverage YouTube’s public results page, and your data (singers, queue, lineups) is stored locally using Chrome storage. Design choices are intentional: readable typography, tabular timers, subtle colors, and keyboard shortcuts make it usable in bright DJ booths and dim back rooms alike. Accessibility touches (status text, sensible roles, and live regions) help you keep control even when you’re multitasking. The code adheres to Chrome MV3 practices with minimal permissions (tabs, scripting, storage), and the keyboard shortcut can be customized from chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Key features at a glance Toggle overlay with Alt+K or the toolbar button Add/remove singers; round-robin rotation Add songs by pasting a link or using built-in search (no API key) Drag-and-drop queue with thumbnails and quick controls Save/Load/Delete lineups for recurring gigs Mute + max-speed ads, then auto-restore your volume/speed Seek bar with current/duration times (tabular, precise) Persistent overlay position and visibility Local-only data; no accounts, no trackers With YouTube Karaoke Extension, setup is quick, handoffs are seamless, and the crowd keeps singing. Focus on the show—let the overlay handle the rest.
