Overview

Close the current tab with a downward right-click gesture. No tracking, external communication, or unnecessary permissions.

Just Close Tab is a simple mouse gesture extension that closes the tab you are currently using by holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse downward. ■ Only What You Need Adding more features often means adding more processing, permissions, and complexity. Just Close Tab intentionally focuses on a single action: closing a tab. Mouse gestures are useful, but sometimes all you need is a quick way to close the current tab. The purpose is clear, the functionality is minimal, and there is no unnecessary behavior. Simple is Justice. ■ Right-click and move down. That's it. Using Just Close Tab is simple. 1. Hold the right mouse button on a regular HTTPS page. 2. Move the mouse downward. 3. When the configured distance is reached, the tab where the gesture was performed is closed. A normal right-click still opens the browser's context menu as usual. ■ Adjustable Gesture Distance You can choose how far the mouse must move before the tab is closed. • 50px: Light • 80px: Standard • 120px: Fewer accidental closes • Custom: 1–300px You can change the setting by clicking the extension icon in the toolbar. The selected value is saved only when you click OK. ■ No Unnecessary Permissions Just Close Tab does not request browser permissions that are unrelated to its purpose of closing the current tab. It does not declare additional permissions such as tabs, history, storage, or activeTab, and it does not request permissions to access browsing history or the clipboard. To detect the mouse gesture, a content script runs on regular HTTPS pages. This is used only to detect the right-button mouse gesture and mouse movement, not to collect page content. ■ Data Handling Just Close Tab does not collect data for analyzing user behavior. It does not collect or store: • Personal information • Browsing history • The URL you are viewing • Website content • Form input • Authentication information • Personal communications • Clipboard data • Mouse movement history It does not use advertising, analytics, telemetry, or tracking. It does not transmit user data to external servers and does not use external APIs, advertising services, or analytics services. Remote Code is not used. All executable code is included in the installed extension package. ■ Only One Setting Is Stored The only setting stored locally is gestureDistance, which controls the movement distance required to recognize the gesture. It is a single integer from 1 through 300 and is stored locally in the extension's IndexedDB database. It is not synchronized with or transmitted to an external server. URLs, browsing history, website content, form input, and mouse movement history are not stored as setting data. ■ Tab Closing Is Strictly Limited Just Close Tab does not search for arbitrary tabs to close. When a valid gesture is recognized, it closes only the tab where that verified gesture was actually performed. The source of the request and the tab information are validated before the tab is closed. One valid gesture results in at most one tab-close request. If the requested tab cannot be closed, the extension does not try to close another tab as a fallback and does not repeatedly retry the operation. ■ Protection Against Synthetic and Invalid Requests Mouse events artificially generated by JavaScript on a web page are not accepted as genuine user input. Internal extension requests are also validated. The extension rejects: • Requests from an unexpected extension source • Requests from iframes • Invalid URLs or origins • Non-HTTPS origins • Invalid tab IDs • Unknown message types • Messages containing unexpected additional data The content script runs in an ISOLATED environment separate from the website's own JavaScript. Gesture state is also reset if the browser window loses focus, the page becomes hidden, or the right-button state is lost. The extension will not close a tab while the gesture setting is still being loaded. If the setting changes during a gesture, the recognition distance for that gesture does not suddenly change. ■ About the Enhanced Safe Browsing Warning If Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing protection is enabled, you may see the message "This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing" when installing Just Close Tab. According to Google, this warning is shown for extensions that are not yet considered trusted by Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing protection. Google also explains that it typically takes a few months for new developers to become trusted. Just Close Tab is a newly published extension, so this warning may currently appear. The warning itself does not mean that a virus or malware has been detected in Just Close Tab. It is a message related to the extension's trust status under Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing protection. ■ About the "User Activity" Disclosure On the Chrome Web Store listing, Just Close Tab is shown as handling "User activity." Just Close Tab declares this category because it temporarily processes right-button mouse events and mouse movement coordinates that are necessary to recognize the gesture. This information is processed temporarily on the user's device only to determine how far the mouse has moved. It is not stored, logged, transmitted externally, shared with third parties, or used for analytics or tracking. The extension does not monitor or record keyboard input, keystrokes, scroll history, network activity, browsing history, website content, or form input. ■ Before Using the Extension Just Close Tab has currently been tested on Chrome for Windows. It may be installable on other environments through the Chrome Web Store, but it has not been tested on macOS, Linux, or ChromeOS. Behavior may vary depending on the Chrome version and operating environment. Please save important input or work in progress when necessary before using the extension. This extension is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, this extension. This does not apply to any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. For more information about how data is handled, please see the Privacy Policy linked from the Chrome Web Store listing. Thank you for reading this far. I hope Just Close Tab is useful as a simple extension you can use with confidence.
