I use a chromebook, so I can't type out the codes for the ALT keys. However... This extension adds the map shown in the pictures to your little extension bar thingy, and you can straight copy them from the drop-down field. It's perfect. I never have to go through a tedious google search or even switch tabs to go to a page I favorited for the 'é' s and 'à's. If you ever use alt codes literally at all ever even just once, get this extension.
