A screenshot can hold a password field, an invoice, a private conversation. Darkroom captures it, lets you mark it up, and keeps it on your machine — nothing about the image is ever uploaded anywhere. Darkroom is a screenshot and annotation tool for Chrome. Capture a region you drag-select, the visible part of the page, or the entire page stitched together as you scroll. Annotate with an arrow, box, ellipse, text, highlight, or crop, then copy the result to your clipboard or save it as a PNG. Every capture and every save lands in a local library, kept in your browser's own storage, that you can browse, pin, and rename. Every save to the library is verified before it's reported as successful: Darkroom reads the screenshot back and checks it against a checksum, and discards it rather than telling you it saved if that check fails. If the library fills up, the oldest unpinned screenshot is retired only after the newest one is durably written — never before — and anything you've pinned is never touched. If browser storage runs out entirely, Darkroom reports it and stops; it will not free space by quietly deleting screenshots you already kept. Free includes all three capture modes, the full basic annotation set (arrow, box, ellipse, text, highlight, crop), copy and PNG save, and a library that holds your last 50 screenshots. Exporting your own screenshots — copy or PNG save — is free for the life of the product, on principle: a tool that locks your own images behind a paywall would be exactly the failure Darkroom exists to avoid. Darkroom Pro is a one-time purchase for people who screenshot for a living. It adds blur and redact tools that destroy the underlying pixels rather than hiding them under a layer, numbered callouts for step-by-step documentation, multi-page PDF export, search across your whole library, and room for 5,000 screenshots instead of 50. Pro does not add or remove access to anything Free already does — it adds depth and room. Everything Darkroom captures and saves stays on your machine, in the browser's own local storage. There is no Darkroom server. Nothing is uploaded, synced, or analyzed — no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking of any kind. A Pro licence key is checked entirely offline using a cryptographic signature; the extension never contacts a server to validate a purchase, at activation or afterward. Darkroom asks for four permissions and no others, and no host permissions at all. ActiveTab, to capture the specific page you chose at the moment you chose it — not standing access to browse.
