# Chrome Web Store listing — BlurMyScreen v1.7.0 ## Short description (max 132 chars — also used in manifest) Hide any tab with blur, animated faces or a note you write. Sensitive-data shield, profiles, regions, PIN lock. 100% local. ## Full description BlurMyScreen hides your screen content with one click — ideal for video calls, screenshares, working in public, or any moment you need instant privacy. And when you want more than a tool, an optional playful layer turns it into something you'll actually enjoy keeping around. ── Hide anything, instantly ── • Four core styles - Blur: Smooth Gaussian blur — covers everything including HTML5 video and canvas elements. - Mosaic: Fine tile pixelation from a page screenshot. If a screenshot can't be taken it safely falls back to Blur — your screen is never left exposed. - Cover: A solid colour of your choice, at an adjustable opacity. - Black: Instant full blackout. • Regional blur Drag a box over just the part you need hidden — a password field, a chat preview, anything. Regions are anchored to the page itself, so they stay perfectly glued to their spot even during fast scrolling. • Auto-blur Blurs the tab after your mouse sits idle for a set time — step away without thinking about it. It only undoes the blur it applied itself; a blur you turned on manually always stays. • Screen lock with PIN Instantly black out the screen and require a PIN to unlock. The PIN is hashed before it's stored — never saved in plain text, never leaves your device. • Keyboard shortcuts Toggle blur with Ctrl+Shift+U (⌘+Shift+U on Mac). The popup always shows your current shortcut and links straight to Chrome's shortcut settings. • Intuitive intensity & at-a-glance status Pick from Faint to Max on a slider with a live blurred sample; the toolbar icon shows an "ON" badge whenever the current tab is hidden. ── Shield sensitive data, automatically ── Switch the shield on once and IBANs, card numbers, national IDs and email addresses hide themselves wherever BlurMyScreen runs — everything else stays readable. Numbers are checksum-verified (IBAN mod-97, Luhn, ID check digits), so order numbers and dates stay visible. Hover a hidden value to peek. It keeps up with live pages, endless lists and 4,000-row bank statements, never modifies the page, and a green count on the toolbar icon shows it working. Optionally allow all sites and new tabs and embedded frames are covered too. ── Faces and Note: hide with a smile, or with a message ── The popup's "Hide as" switch offers two more ways to hide, ready any time: • Faces Two big animated eyes on a solid screen, in 12 moods and 12 colours. They blink, sulk and giggle, follow your mouse without dropping the act, and the button talks back. • Note A sheet of graph paper with your own words on it — "Back in 10 minutes", or a note to yourself. Ten papers, three letterings, any size. Write right on the hidden screen: typing happens inside BlurMyScreen's own frame, so the page underneath never sees it. Your note stays on this device. ── Playful extras (all optional, all off by default) ── Flip one switch in Settings and BlurMyScreen grows a personality — flip it back and it's a plain privacy tool again. Nothing below ever appears until you ask for it. • Flashlight peek While a tab is hidden, hold Alt (⌥ on Mac) to sweep a soft clear spotlight under your cursor — like a torch in a dark room. Release to re-hide instantly. Videos and embeds stay protected even mid-peek. • Focus timer Pomodoro-style cycles: work with a clear screen, then a calm full-screen break page reminds you to step away — complete with a tiny looping pixel scene to watch while you breathe. Closing the break tab means "back to work". Durations are configurable. • Boss screen One shortcut (Ctrl/⌘+Shift+X) swaps the tab for an innocent screen — no words on it, so it works in any language. Default is plain white with a gently wandering "?", or add your own image (your screen's ratio fits best, e.g. 1920×1080; up to 10 MB) and make it anything you like. • Three extra hide styles Frosted glass (blur behind an icy, grainy pane), TV static (opaque animated noise) and Fog (blur under a slowly drifting mist). Each one you enable appears as a style pill in the popup. • Lock screen looks Dress up the PIN lock: clocks in four styles (digital, digital + date, analog, minimal analog), backgrounds (black, midnight, starry night) and a little DVD-style bouncing lock. • Local stats & streaks How often your screen was protected, focus sessions, day streaks — counted on your device, shown only to you, resettable anytime. A small flame chip in the popup celebrates a live streak. • Seasonal touches Snow drifts over your hides in December, bats in late October. The rest of the year, nothing changes at all. All extras respect your system's reduced-motion setting, and none of them ever slows down the moment that matters: hiding your screen is always instant. ── One tap, whole setup ── • Profiles: Work, Café and Home chips apply style, intensity, auto-blur and hide-on-switch-away together. Rename them, pick emojis, tune the values. • Snapshot: copy or save the tab exactly as you've hidden it, with regions in black bar, hazard tape or shut-eye tile looks. • Live toolbar icon: know the state of a tab without opening the popup. • Backup & restore: carry your settings to another computer as a small file. ── Privacy ── BlurMyScreen collects no data whatsoever. No analytics, no tracking, no remote servers — the extension makes zero network requests. All processing happens locally inside your browser. Preferences, local stats, your optional boss-screen image, your note and your optional PIN (hashed, never plain text) are stored only in chrome.storage.local on your own device and never leave it. Mosaic mode's screenshot is held only in memory while the effect is active, then discarded — never written to disk or sent anywhere. ── Permissions ── Only minimal permissions — no access to any website at install: • activeTab + scripting: apply the hide to the tab you invoke it on, and only that tab. • storage: remember your preferences on this device. • alarms: keep the focus timer's clock running reliably (this permission shows no install warning and grants no data access). • contextMenus: add the "BlurMyScreen" right-click entries (blur the tab, pick a region, blur a single image). Shows no install warning and grants no data access. • Optional "access to all sites" (<all_urls>): NOT requested at install. Only if you click "All sites" on the shield does Chrome ask you; then the shield can run on every page and embedded frame, including new tabs. Nothing is read out or sent anywhere, and you can remove the access in Settings any time. ---Updates (v1.7.0)--- - Hide as: one clear switch at the top of the popup — Blur, Faces or Note. Faces and Note are ready right there; no trip to Settings. - Note: hide the tab behind a sheet of graph paper with your own words on it — a reminder for you, or a message for whoever walks by. Ten papers (from sticky yellow to chalkboard), three letterings, any size, left or centred. You can write right on the hidden screen: the typing happens in BlurMyScreen's own frame, so the page underneath never sees it. Saved on this device only. - Faces: the little faces in the picker now watch your cursor and blink, and the screen's button wears a tiny copy of the face. - Settings: every section has its own colour and icon, the section bar has arrows, and the playful corner got its own frame. - BlurMyScreen now draws its own icons instead of system emoji, so it looks the same on every computer. - Faster on big pages: the shield hides a 4,000-row statement in a fifth of a second (it used to take far longer), stays light on live-updating pages and costs nothing extra while you move the mouse. Embedded frames get only the shield, not the whole extension. - Smoother everywhere: the Faces' eyes no longer tremble on busy pages, and the Settings page animates on the graphics card. ---Updates (v1.6.0)--- - Eyes: a new playful hide style — two big animated eyes on a solid screen, in 12 moods (curious, happy, in love, mischievous, suspicious, bored, sleepy, sad, scared, shocked, angry, dizzy) and 12 colours including pure black. They blink, giggle, sulk and follow your mouse without dropping the act, and the cancel button talks back. Switch it on in Settings, then pick Blur or Faces right at the top of the popup — with a mood (or "Surprise me") and a colour. - Sensitive data shield is now automatic: switch it on once and it protects every tab BlurMyScreen reaches — or, if you allow all sites, every page and embedded frame, including new tabs. A green toolbar count shows how many values are hidden. Smarter matching: any IBAN grouping, invisible separators, "(0532) …" phone numbers, and an optional Amounts & balances category. - Profiles: Work, Café and Home chips in the popup apply a whole setup (style, intensity, auto-blur, hide-on-switch-away) in one tap; edit them in Settings. The chip lights up whenever your current settings match it - Sensitive text shield: blur just the IBANs, card numbers, national IDs and emails on a page and keep the rest readable. Numbers are checksum-verified so ordinary order numbers stay visible; hover a hidden value to peek; the page itself is never modified, so web apps keep working. Toggle it in the popup or the right-click menu - Snapshot: copy the tab exactly as it's hidden — blur and regions included — to your clipboard, or save it as a PNG. New region looks for screenshots: black bar, hazard tape, shut-eye tiles - Live toolbar icon: the icon blurs while a tab is hidden, wears a padlock when locked, and rings with progress during a focus session - Backup & restore: export all settings to a file and import them elsewhere; your PIN and boss-screen image never leave the device - Tidier popup: Region, Clear, Snapshot and Lock as one row of quick actions; everything fits without scrolling even with all extras on ---Updates (v1.5.0)--- - Hide on switch-away: optionally blur the active tab the moment you leave Chrome for another app, revealed again the instant you return (under Auto-blur; only ever un-hides what it hid itself) - Right-click menu: blur the tab, pick a region, or blur a single image straight from the page - Unhide animations: reveals can melt, curtain, or ripple away — hiding itself stays instant, never animated (enable Motion in Settings) - Milestone badges: earn protection and streak achievements, with a small confetti nod when you do; all local, listed in Settings › Stats - Stronger screen-lock PIN: per-PIN salted hashing plus a rising cooldown after repeated wrong entries ---Updates (v1.4.0)--- - New Settings page (the gear in the popup) — home of the optional "Playful extras" layer; the popup itself stays as clean as ever - Flashlight peek: hold Alt to sweep a clear spotlight while hidden - Focus timer with a calm pixel-art break scene (Pomodoro-style cycles) - Boss screen: one shortcut swaps the tab for an innocent, language-free screen — default white with a wandering "?", or your own image - Three new hide styles: Frosted glass, TV static, Fog - Lock screen looks: clocks in 4 styles, backgrounds, and a bouncing lock - Local-only stats and day streaks, resettable anytime - Seasonal touches: snow in December, bats in late October (opt-in) - PIN management moved to Settings; update notices now stay until you've actually read them — and new installs get the tour too - Videos and embeds stay blurred during flashlight peek; smoother, more energy-efficient animations throughout ---Updates (v1.3.0)--- - One-click whole-tab hide is now the main button, with your chosen style - Auto-blur now survives pages that refresh themselves (common on news sites): the timer re-arms automatically, and if the screen was hidden it's hidden again the instant the page finishes loading - Live preview: intensity and colour apply to the page as you drag - Intensity levels renamed Faint → Max, with a live blurred sample in the popup - Regional blur re-engineered: regions are anchored to the page itself, so fast scrolling can no longer reveal what's underneath for a split second - Toolbar icon now shows an "ON" badge on hidden tabs - Mosaic safely falls back to Blur if a screenshot isn't available - Fixed: screen lock could appear off-screen on scrolled pages; repeated region selection could freeze the page; manual blur was cancelled by auto-blur - Smoother, springier controls with subtle icon animations, keyboard-focus outlines, and reduced-motion support ---Updates (v1.2.0)--- - New Black mode for instant blackout, and Cover mode with a custom colour (replaces the old Pixel mode) - Regional blur: hide just one part of the screen — it tracks scroll so it never slips out of place - Auto-blur on idle, with a configurable delay - Optional PIN-protected screen lock (PIN is hashed, not stored in plain text) - Redesigned popup with clearer, more direct controls --- ## Developer dashboard answers (v1.7.0) ### Single purpose BlurMyScreen hides what is on your screen: it covers a tab (blur, mosaic, cover, black, animated faces or a note), parts of a tab (regions), or just the sensitive values on it (the shield), and locks it with a PIN. Every optional extra serves that purpose — the flashlight peeks through a hide, the boss screen and seasonal touches are hide screens, the focus timer hides the screen during breaks, and stats count how often the screen was protected. ### Permission justifications - **activeTab** — apply a hide, region, lock or the shield to the tab the user invokes the extension on (popup, shortcut, context menu), and only that tab. - **scripting** — inject the page script that draws the hide overlay and runs the shield in that tab; with optional all-sites access, register it so the shield is already active on new pages. - **storage** — keep the user's settings, profiles, local stats, note text and the hashed PIN on this device (chrome.storage.local; nothing is synced). - **alarms** — keep the focus timer and its break reminders on time while the service worker sleeps. - **contextMenus** — right-click entries: hide the tab, pick a region, blur an image, toggle the shield. - **Optional host permission `<all_urls>`** — requested only when the user clicks "All sites" on the shield, so the shield can run on every page and embedded frame without a click per site. Removable in Settings. - **web_accessible_resources: note.html (use_dynamic_url)** — the Note hide screen is BlurMyScreen's own frame on top of the hidden tab, so text the user types never passes through the page's scripts or DOM. ### Remote code No. All code is in the package; no eval, no remote scripts, no network requests. ### Data usage (privacy practices tab) - Collects: **nothing**. No personally identifiable information, health, financial, authentication, personal communications, location, web history, user activity or website content is collected or transmitted. - The shield reads text on the page **inside the browser** to recognise sensitive values and never stores or sends it. - Certify: not sold to third parties; not used or transferred for purposes unrelated to the single purpose; not used for creditworthiness or lending. ### Privacy policy Host `PRIVACY.md` (e.g. as a GitHub Pages or Gist page) and paste its URL. ### Store assets (`store/`, not packed) - Screenshots 1280×800: `store/1-popup.png`, `2-shield.png`, `3-faces.png`, `4-note.png`, `5-settings.png` - Small promo tile 440×280: `store/promo-440x280.png` - Icon 128×128: `icons/icon128.png`
