Overview
A sophisticated, monochromatic charcoal-black theme for Google Chrome. By MM Web: https://mmweb.net
MM Charcoal Black is a refined dark theme for Google Chrome. It replaces Chrome's default colors with a quiet, monochromatic palette of charcoal, graphite and off-white, so the browser frame steps back and the page you're working on stays in focus. Why install it You look at the same frame, tabs and toolbar for hours every day. Bright defaults keep pulling at your attention, and many "pure black" themes go too far the other way: harsh contrast, tabs that blur into the frame, and an address bar that's hard to find at a glance. MM Charcoal Black takes a calmer route: - Deep charcoal instead of flat black. A softer, more premium dark look that stays comfortable through long sessions. - Clear layers. The frame, inactive tabs, active tab, toolbar and address bar each sit one subtle tonal step apart, so you always know where you are without hard lines or bright accents. - Readable text everywhere. Off-white text for the active tab, bookmarks, address bar and New Tab page, with muted light grey for inactive tabs. Every text color the theme defines exceeds the WCAG AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background. - Nothing to distract you. No gradients, no neon, no background image. One consistent, monochromatic interface from the tab strip to the New Tab page. What it changes - Browser frame and tab strip, including unfocused windows - Active and inactive tabs - Toolbar and toolbar icons - Address bar - Bookmarks bar - New Tab page background, text and links, with the white Google logo where Chrome shows it - Window control buttons, on platforms where Chrome applies theme colors to them - A slightly deeper charcoal frame for Incognito windows, where your Chrome version applies theme colors to them Made for focused work MM Charcoal Black suits everyday browsing, coding, writing, research and late-night work: anywhere you want the browser to stay out of the way and let the content lead. Lightweight and private by design This is a native Chrome theme: a set of colors and nothing more. It requests no permissions, runs no code, collects no data and works fully offline. Nothing runs in the background. Good to know - Themes change Chrome's own interface, not websites. Pages keep their own light or dark design. - Chrome draws some surfaces itself, such as menus, dialogs and side panels, so small details can vary between Chrome versions and operating systems. - You can switch back at any time: open Chrome Settings, go to Appearance, and select Reset to default next to Theme.
