Jiandu Reader — Clean Web Reading

Clean fixed-width reading with typography controls, media modes, local editing, bilingual UI, and A4 PDF printing.

Jiandu Reader turns webpages and raw text documents into a clean, fixed-width reading view for focused reading, technical documentation, and print-ready PDF export. No account is required. Jiandu Reader uses no developer-operated cloud service. Article content, page URLs, and reading history are not sent to the developer. Content extraction, formatting, media processing, and editing are performed locally in your browser. Key features • Reader mode Extracts the visible title, article content, images, tables, quotes, lists, and code into an independent reading layer without modifying the original webpage. • Raw text document support Recognizes plain-text pages, .txt, .rst, Markdown-style documents, and pages whose main content is displayed inside a single preformatted text block. Headings, paragraphs, lists, and code sections are reorganized into a readable document structure. • Focus cleanup Keeps the original webpage interactive while reducing common distractions such as app prompts, advertisements, recommendation blocks, floating elements, and sidebars. • Fixed reading width Choose a preset width or enter a custom width for news, long articles, tutorials, specifications, and technical documentation. • Typography controls Choose common cross-platform, Windows, macOS, and Linux font stacks. Adjust font size, line height, paragraph spacing, and text alignment. • Outline and reading progress Generate a table of contents from document headings and follow your reading progress through long pages. • No-image mode Collapse images and diagrams into compact, clickable picture placeholders. Images remain available for temporary preview without interrupting the text layout. • Plain-text mode Remove visual media and switch the document to a simplified monospaced reading view. • Edit the reading copy Edit text, remove unwanted content blocks, undo, and redo changes without modifying the original webpage. • Print and PDF Creates a dedicated print document for A4 or Letter output. Images, SVG, Canvas, tables, code blocks, and wide diagrams are normalized to reduce blank pages and cropped content. • English and Simplified Chinese interface Switch the extension interface language from the popup or settings page. • Local preferences Theme, typography, width, language, and layout preferences are stored through Chrome Sync so they can be reused on your Chrome devices. Article content and reading history are not stored. How to use 1. Open an article, documentation page, or raw text document. 2. Click Jiandu Reader in the browser toolbar. 3. Choose Start Reading. 4. Use the right-side toolbar to adjust width, typography, theme, media mode, or editing. 5. Click the print icon and choose Save to PDF in Chrome's print dialog. You can also select part of a webpage and use Read Selection when the page does not contain a clearly identifiable article body. Privacy and permissions Jiandu Reader processes a page only after you click the extension, use its keyboard shortcut, or explicitly enable optional automatic cleanup. Automatic cleanup permissions are optional and are requested only for supported sites when you enable that feature. Jiandu Reader does not: • Sell or share user data • Display advertisements • Inject analytics or tracking • Upload article content • Store browsing history • Bypass paywalls, sign-in requirements, or access controls • Download or execute remote code Compatibility Jiandu Reader uses a general content extractor together with dedicated adapters for selected content sites. It works best with articles, blogs, news, tutorials, specifications, documentation, plain-text files, RST documents, and Markdown-style pages.
