Watch YouTube with two subtitle lines at once: the video's own captions on top and a translation underneath. Built for people learning Chinese or English, and for anyone who watches in a second language. WHAT YOU GET (FREE) - Two lines over the player on regular videos and on Shorts: the original captions plus your chosen translation. - Traditional Chinese (zh-TW) and Simplified Chinese (zh-CN) are first-class targets, plus English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai and Turkish. - Pinyin or zhuyin (Bopomofo) printed above Chinese characters, on the original line, the translated line, or both. - Uses the video's human-made captions when they exist and falls back to YouTube's auto-generated ones. - Uses a creator's own translation when the video has one, then YouTube's built-in translation, and only then a free machine-translation service. Most videos never touch a third-party server. - Keeps up when you seek, change playback speed, skip ads, or move to the next video. - Settings in the toolbar popup: target language, font size, top or bottom position, distance from the edge, hide the original line, pronunciation style. - No account, no tracking, no API key to paste. HOW IT WORKS Open any YouTube video that has captions (auto-generated captions count). The extension reads the same caption data the YouTube player uses and draws the two lines on top of the video. Native YouTube captions are hidden while it is active; switch it off from the popup and they come back. DEFAULT LANGUAGES Chinese-language videos are translated into English. Everything else is translated into Traditional Chinese (or your pick). If your browser is set to Traditional Chinese, that is the starting choice. When a video has no YouTube translation for your language, the caption lines are sent to a public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) to be translated, and nothing else is sent.
