Most alt text tools only tell you whether an alt attribute exists. That is not the same as whether it works. WCAG Image Checker audits the quality of your alt text against seven rules, and shows you exactly which images fail. WHAT IT CATCHES Errors - Images with no alt attribute at all - Alt text that is just a filename, like IMG_2841.jpg Warnings - Generic alt text such as "image", "photo" or "picture" - Alt text longer than 125 characters - Redundant prefixes like "Photo of..." that screen readers already announce - Duplicate alt text used across different images Correctly marked - Decorative images using alt="" - Images with real descriptive alt text HOW IT WORKS Click the icon. Results appear in the side panel instantly. No spinner, no loading screen, no account. Click any result and the page scrolls straight to that image and highlights it. You see the problem, not just a number. The extension watches the page after scanning. If new images load in, it tells you and offers to rescan, so your counts stay honest. BUILT FOR - Accessibility auditors working through client sites - Front-end developers checking their own work before shipping - SEO specialists auditing image markup - Anyone working toward WCAG 2.2 or European Accessibility Act compliance PRIVACY Everything runs locally in your browser. No data is sent anywhere, no analytics, no tracking, no account required. Site permission is requested one domain at a time, only when you scan. KNOWN LIMITATION A malformed alt attribute written as <img alt> with no equals sign cannot be distinguished from <img alt="">. Browsers normalise both to an empty value before any extension can read them. No browser extension can detect this. We would rather tell you than pretend otherwise.
