Overview
Copy a selection as structured text an LLM can understand.
Copy4Chat copies your selection as structured text that preserves what you were actually looking at, so an LLM assistant (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini) understands the page without needing a screenshot. Ordinary copy flattens a page into a stream of words. Which value sits in which field, which option is selected, what is checked, what order things appear in on screen. all of it is gone by the time you paste. Just select, right-click, select Copy4Chat, paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other AI chat. WHAT IT PRESERVES • Current form values: what is actually typed in the box, not the placeholder • Control state: checked, selected, disabled, focused, expanded, invalid • Visual reading order: correct even when CSS reorders the page, where plain copy is confidently wrong • Headings, lists, real tables, and link targets • Icon meaning: a star glyph beside "8" becomes "stars 8" rather than a bare number • Layout relationships: a form still reads as a form, side-by-side cards still read as side by side • Only what you selected. The selection is never quietly widened to grab more of the page PRIVACY Nothing leaves your device. No servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no storage of any kind. The extension reads your selection inside the page, formats it there, and writes it to your clipboard. That is the whole operation. Nothing runs on any page until you invoke the menu item. There are no host permissions and no persistent content script, so the extension is not watching the sites you visit. Because a selection can overlap sensitive fields, passwords, card numbers, one-time codes, and token-shaped values are masked rather than copied, and credential-like parameters are stripped from link URLs. A notification after each copy tells you how many values were masked. WHAT'S NEW 0.1.2 Long tracking URLs are no longer split mid-link. They move to a footnote, so the layout stays narrow and the address stays usable. 0.1.1 Fixed copying from text boxes and from GitHub's code view, which previously copied nothing at all. Every action now reports what it did, so a copy can no longer fail silently and leave stale clipboard contents behind. ABOUT THIS RELEASE Works well on conventional markup; rough edges remain on heavily component-generated pages. Bug reports and suggestions are welcome on the project page.
