Overview
The fastest and easiest way to save any video from Web Browser.
Video Downloader 3.1 — A Major Update Video Downloader 3.1 is our biggest release yet: a top-to-bottom overhaul that makes finding and saving videos faster, more reliable, and safer than ever. We rebuilt the parts of the extension that had quietly stopped working on the modern web, added the single most-requested feature, and hardened the whole experience. Here is everything that changed. Detection that works on today's web The most important fix is invisible but huge: video detection works on modern websites again. Most sites have moved to newer, faster connection standards (HTTP/2 and HTTP/3), and a subtle mismatch in how the extension read those connections meant it was missing videos it should have caught. We fixed the underlying logic, and detection now succeeds across the vast majority of sites that serve direct video files. If the extension felt like it had "stopped finding videos" on your favorite sites, this update brings it back to life. We also repaired Vimeo detection, which had been broken by a small internal error, and we cleaned up how the extension scans a page so it no longer floods the list with hundreds of tiny streaming fragments. You now see clean, meaningful entries instead of noise. Download any HLS / m3u8 stream (brand new!) This is the headline feature. Many streaming sites deliver video as an "HLS" (m3u8) playlist — a stream split into many small, often encrypted pieces. Until now, the extension could only tell you that such a stream existed; it could not save it. Version 3.1 changes that completely. When you open a page with an HLS stream, you will see a new "Download (HLS)" button. Click it, and the extension automatically finds the highest-quality version, downloads every segment, decrypts protected streams (AES-128) on the fly, and stitches everything back into a single playable file — all in the background, so you can keep browsing or even close the popup. Progress is shown right on the toolbar icon. This brings the extension in line with the best downloaders available, and it is built entirely with modern, secure browser technology. A smoother, more reliable popup We fixed a frustrating bug where the popup could appear completely blank on certain pages, such as the Chrome Web Store, PDF viewers, and internal browser pages. It now always shows a clear "No videos found" message instead of nothing, so you are never left guessing. Downloads themselves are more robust, too. Previously, if a download was interrupted, an on-screen notice could get "stuck" and block further downloads until you reloaded the page. That is fixed: downloads now clean up after themselves properly, and large files are handled more carefully so they are not cut short. Correct filenames in every language If you download videos with titles in Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, or any non-Latin script, you will notice a big improvement: filenames now keep your language's characters instead of being stripped down to a blank name. The extension is available in 44 languages, and now your saved files respect all of them, while still removing characters that are not allowed in filenames. Safer and more private We took a careful pass over security. Information coming from web pages is now properly neutralized before it is displayed inside the extension, closing a potential avenue for a malicious page to inject content into the extension's window. We also narrowed the extension's network monitoring so it inspects far fewer requests, focusing only on the media-related traffic it actually needs — better for both privacy and performance. Behind the scenes, we moved to modern, permission-scoped storage and aligned the extension with the latest Chrome extension platform (Manifest V3) requirements. Dozens of smaller fixes Along the way we corrected numerous smaller issues: a near-invisible notification badge, empty browser-tab titles on our information pages, an outdated "rate us" link, leftover page markup, and several internal errors that could cause parts of the extension to fail silently. Individually small, together they make the whole experience noticeably more polished. Tested, thoroughly Finally, this release is backed by an automated test suite that launches a real browser, loads the extension, and verifies that detection, the popup, the new HLS downloader, and the actual saving of files all work end-to-end — plus a large set of logic tests covering parsing, decryption, and filename handling. We want every future update to be as dependable as this one. In short Video Downloader 3.1 restores detection on modern sites, adds full HLS / m3u8 download support, fixes the blank-popup and stuck-download problems, preserves filenames in every language, and tightens security and privacy — all validated by real end-to-end testing.
