Overview

Fast Open Graph Tester: preview link cards, check og image and meta tags, validate sites on localhost.

🔍 Open Graph Tester: see the share preview before you publish Open Graph Tester is a lightweight Chrome tool that shows how any page will look when it is shared. One click gives you a live preview card and a line-by-line report of what the crawler sees. 🚀 Quick start 1. Install the extension with the Add to Chrome button 2. Load any url, public or local 3. Click the extension icon in your toolbar 4. Read the preview card and the tag report side by side 5. Fix what is flagged and re-run the check ⚠️ Why link previews break Most people discover a broken thumbnail after the post is live. The image is cropped, the title is missing, and the cache will not let you undo it. 💠 og:image points at a path that returns 404 on production 💠 og:title is inherited from a template and never overridden 💠 tags are injected by javascript after the crawler has left 🖥️ Works on localhost and staging Online validators cannot reach 127.0.0.1, and they cannot log in to a protected environment. The extension runs inside your browser, so it sees exactly what you see. 1️⃣ Runs on any local dev server, whatever the port 2️⃣ Works behind logins, cookies and basic auth 3️⃣ Reaches staging domains that are closed to crawlers 4️⃣ Works on pages served straight from your own machine 🔎 What the extension reads 1. The core tags: og:title, og:description, og:url and og:type 2. og:image with real dimensions and file weight 3. twitter:card and twitter:title values 4. canonical link, charset, viewport and other head metadata 🌐 Every platform draws the card its own way The preview uses the crop, image ratio and title length that each network actually applies, so you see the real result rather than a generic mock-up. Nine social networks and messengers are covered, and where a network has more than one card type, both the summary and the large image layouts are shown. 🖼️ Image checks Visuals fail more often than text, and they fail quietly, because nothing in your html looks wrong. The extension catches that before your audience does. ◆ Confirms that og:image resolves and returns a real file ◆ Flags dimensions below the 1200x630 standard ◆ Warns about aspect ratios that will be cropped on mobile ◆ Checks absolute and relative paths, including cdn hosts 📌 Correctness, not aesthetics 🔹 Duplicated og tags reported with the exact line where they live 🔹 Empty content attributes that silently break the layout 🔹 Markup placed outside the head, where crawlers ignore it 🔹 Conflicts between Open Graph and Twitter Card markup 👨‍💻 Built for people who ship and publish pages ➤ Front-end developers wiring meta tags in any framework, checking the result after every hot reload. ➤ QA engineers adding a share-preview step to the pre-release checklist, while fixes are still cheap. ➤ Content managers who want a social preview before scheduling, not a screenshot afterwards. ➤ Agencies validating landing pages and client sites before handover, where a broken thumbnail wastes paid traffic. ⚡ Features at a glance ▸ One click from the toolbar, no page reload ▸ Copy any og tag value or asset url to the clipboard ▸ Export the full report as json or markdown ▸ Re-run the whole check without leaving the page 🔒 Privacy by architecture 🔸 Everything runs locally, inside the tab you already have 🔸 No signup, no login, no dashboard, no quota 🔸 Nothing about your pages is uploaded or stored ❓ Frequently asked questions 📌 Does this replace the Facebook Sharing Debugger? 💡 It replaces it while you build. The official debugger still clears cache on production, but cannot reach a local address. Use the extension during development, and switch back once you deploy. 📌 Can I really test on localhost? 💡 Yes. The extension reads the dom of the page in front of you, so a local test works exactly like a public one. 📌 Does it show what my post will look like on x? 💡 Yes. Twitter Card markup is parsed alongside the Open Graph tags, in both summary and large formats. 📌 Do I need an account? 💡 No. There is no signup and no limit on how many urls you check. Install it and start straight away. 🎯 Stop guessing what your links look like. Install Open Graph Tester, load the page you are working on, and see the exact card your audience will see.
