Bingelang — Learn languages with YouTube™ and articles
Overview
Bilingual subtitles and a dictionary for YouTube™ and the articles you read, with your Bingelang cards and listening time.
Learn a language with the YouTube videos you already watch and the articles you like to read. On YouTube, Bingelang adds bilingual subtitles under the video: the original line in the language you learn, its translation below. Hover over a word to see its translations and its dictionary form; the video pauses while you read and resumes when you move on. Reading works the same way: turn Bingelang on for the news sites and blogs you choose, then click a word (or press and hold a word in a link) to see its translations without leaving the page. The Articles tab suggests free sites for each language. • Bilingual subtitles, with the translation shown or revealed on demand • Dictionary for French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese, read on your device • On any page, translate a selected word from the right-click menu or with Alt+Shift+D (Control+Shift+D on a Mac) • Replay the last sentence (R), slow it down (Shift+R) or show the translation (V) • Translations with a Bingelang card show its icon: click to see the card and add it to your reviews • Review your Bingelang cards in the side panel, with the same schedule as on bingelang.com • YouTube listening time counted in the languages you learn: daily goal, streak, fireflies, levels and the monthly leaderboard, shared with your Bingelang account • Recommended YouTube channels and reading sites for each language • Interface in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese (Brazil) Bingelang requires a free Bingelang account, which you can create from the extension. Listening only counts while the audio is in a language you learn and the video plays visibly with sound; ads, pauses and muted videos are not counted. Reading does not count as listening time. Privacy: Chrome asks your permission for each site you turn on. Subtitles and the text of the pages you read stay on your device. Once connected, the extension tells Bingelang which YouTube videos you listen to in your languages, and for how long, to count your listening time, and the words you look up (never the sentence), to show their cards and choose the next ones to create.
