Translate selected text without leaving the web page. Franker Translator is an inline translator for Chrome desktop. Highlight a word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph and use one keyboard shortcut. Franker detects the source language and inserts the translation directly beside the original text—so you can keep reading in context. WHY USE FRANKER • Translate selected text inline See the meaning exactly where you are reading instead of copying text into another tab. • Work with a keyboard shortcut Press Ctrl+Shift+F on Windows, Linux, or ChromeOS, or Command+Shift+F on macOS. Shortcuts can be customized. • Read long passages naturally Short selections are translated as one fragment. Longer selections are handled sentence by sentence, placing each translation beside the matching sentence. • Detect the source language automatically Use Auto-detect or choose the source and target languages yourself from the popup. • Customize translation appearance Choose text and background colors, font, size, weight, placement, brackets, and borders. Saved changes are applied immediately to translations on open pages. • Remove translations instantly Double-click one translation to remove it, or clear all Franker translations from the page with Ctrl+Shift+X or Command+Shift+X. ON-DEVICE TRANSLATION BY DEFAULT By default, Franker uses the Translator and Language Detector APIs built into Chrome. Selected text is processed on your device and is not sent to a translation server operated by Franker. No account, subscription, or API key is required for this mode. Chrome may automatically download local language support the first time a language pair is used. PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATION Need another translation engine? Enable Professional Translation in Settings and add your own Google Cloud Translation API key. Franker then sends only the text you select directly to Google Cloud Translation instead of Chrome's on-device Translator. The API key stays on your device; Google Cloud charges and data handling apply. HOW IT WORKS 1. Select text on a web page. 2. Press the Franker shortcut or click Translate selected text in the popup. 3. Continue reading with the translation inserted beside the original. Franker is useful for reading articles, research, documentation, study materials, news, and multilingual websites while preserving the original context. REQUIREMENTS • Chrome 138 or later on desktop for on-device translation • A language pair supported by Chrome’s on-device Translator, or a Google Cloud Translation API key for Professional Translation • Internet access may be needed once for Chrome to download local language support; Professional Translation requires internet access On-device language availability is controlled by Chrome and may vary by language pair, browser policy, and device. Franker shows a clear message when Chrome or a selected language pair is not supported. Professional Translation is optional and requires a valid Google Cloud Translation API key.
