RedactNinja helps you review and remove sensitive information from documents and webpage screenshots before sharing them. Selected files are processed locally on your device, without being uploaded to a processing server. Open a searchable PDF, choose personal information detection rules and add any names or phrases you want to cover. You can import names from CSV and specify information that should remain visible. Review suggestions and their explanations, make changes and approve each page before exporting. Page thumbnails, zoom and editable black boxes help you inspect documents closely. You can undo changes and repeat a box across compatible pages. A failed technical verification blocks the document download. For webpage screenshots, start the extension’s toolbar to cover visible text or page elements before capture. Review the captured image, adjust boxes, crop it and add an optional watermark before saving. The email conversion tool lets you inspect supported messages, choose which to include and review extraction warnings before downloading the resulting documents. The extension does not include automatic text recognition for scanned pages or images. These require visual inspection and manual boxes. Supported formats and processing limits are explained in the bundled user guide. No cloud account is required, and the extension does not use analytics. Temporary webpage access begins only when you start screenshot mode. Unsaved work is lost when its tab is closed or reloaded. PDF AND IMAGE REDACTION Scan a searchable PDF using built-in UK personal information rules, add names or phrases, or import names from a CSV. Keep-visible terms help protect information that should remain in the disclosure. Review suggested redactions before export. Inspect explanations, check overlapping rules and ambiguous names, and choose which occurrences to redact. Name detection includes likely names without titles, but suggestions always need human review. Use page thumbnails, zoom and manual black boxes. Move or resize boxes, use keyboard controls, undo decisions and repeat a box across compatible pages. Approve every page before downloading. A failed redacted-page technical verification blocks the PDF download. JPG and PNG images can be reviewed with manual boxes and exported as PDFs. Tick OCR to read scanned pages and photos: it runs on your computer with English language data packaged in the extension, and nothing is downloaded or uploaded. OCR can misread words, so scanned pages still need visual checking. Open a PDF from a website in Chrome's viewer, then choose Redact the PDF in this tab to review it without saving it first. BATCH REDACTION AND PDF TOOLS Apply the same rules to up to 20 files, check each file's suggestions, and download the verified PDFs in one ZIP with a receipt. SCREENSHOT REDACTION Start screenshot mode on a normal webpage from the popup or with Alt+Shift+R. Cover visible webpage text, click elements to hide them, draw black boxes, or let RedactNinja suggest likely personal data on the page for you to accept or untick. Capture the visible screen or the full scrolling page. Review the frozen screenshot, add and edit boxes, crop the image and undo changes. Export as PNG, JPG or an image-only PDF, with an optional watermark, or copy the redacted image to the clipboard. Screenshot redaction changes the exported image, not the original website or its source data. EMAIL EVIDENCE TO PDF Convert supported MSG, MBOX, PST and Purview ZIP evidence into review PDFs. Review the message inventory, choose included messages, check exclusions and inspect supported attachment text before export. Duplicate handling, relevance terms and date ordering help prepare the initial selection. Download PDF parts of up to 100 messages in one ZIP. Extraction warnings and unsupported content require separate review. Office evidence conversion produces text-based review PDFs, not edited Word or Excel files. LOCAL PROCESSING AND LIMITED PERMISSIONS No file uploads. No extension analytics. No cloud account required. The extension handles selected document contents, entered names and requested webpage captures locally to provide its redaction features. It requests activeTab and scripting only. Temporary access to the current tab starts when you choose screenshot mode, press its shortcut or choose Redact the PDF in this tab; there are no broad host permissions or background browsing-history monitoring. Unsaved review work remains in the current tab. Closing or reloading it discards the review; downloaded files remain on your device. Large or interrupted jobs may need a smaller export and a fresh scan.
