Overview

Understand Japanese in context with local word meanings, saved vocabulary, and daily review. Pro features are coming soon.

Make the Japanese in front of you easier to understand. Iris adds color, readings, and English word meanings to Japanese webpages you choose to read. Keep the original text in view, explore unfamiliar words, and save the ones you want to remember. SEE HOW A SENTENCE FITS TOGETHER Give words color by their grammatical role. Choose Full color, Adaptive color, or No color to suit the way you read. With Adaptive color, your review history helps familiar words fade into the page. OPEN THE MEANING Look up Japanese words with kana readings, romaji, and English dictionary definitions. Customize which details appear in your word cards and how many meanings you see. BUILD YOUR OWN VOCABULARY Save words to My Sky, revisit them with spaced review, and export your vocabulary. Optional AnkiConnect support sends selected words to Anki running on your own computer. READ ON YOUR DEVICE Japanese tokenization and dictionary lookup use bundled dictionaries and run locally. The free release needs no account or payment card. Saved vocabulary, review history, and preferences stay on your device. Iris reads a page when you activate it; automatic reading on a site requires your permission. OPTIONAL SENTENCE TRANSLATION Sentence translation uses your browser's on-device translation support and may require an initial language-model download. Availability depends on your browser and device. Dictionary lookup remains available when sentence translation is unavailable. WHAT THIS RELEASE INCLUDES This release offers free local reading, word lookup, vocabulary saving, review, and export. Iris Pro and Teams are coming soon. Cloud vocabulary sync, PDF reading, Japanese writing assistance, and Google Meet caption review are not available yet. Purchases and trials are disabled. Some webpages and video players may not be compatible. Iris cannot run on Chrome's internal pages or the Chrome Web Store. Readings, dictionary results, and translations can contain errors; check the original context when accuracy matters.
