Overview

Reliable dark mode for Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail, and any website. Easy on the eyes, day or night.

Duskmode adds a clean, reliable dark mode to any website — including the ones most dark-mode extensions get wrong, like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail. It's easy on your eyes during late nights and bright offices alike. Instead of maintaining fragile per-site styles, Duskmode intelligently inverts each page and corrects the colors so text is readable and real photos and video still look natural. It's fast and light — one CSS filter, no per-page style analysis, no CPU drain or page-load lag. Sites that already ship a dark theme are detected and left alone, instead of being flipped back to light. PDFs you preview in Google Drive go properly dark too — pages, thumbnails, and comments included. Files you open from your own device go dark as well — local HTML pages, text files, folder listings, and PDFs — under a single "Local files" switch. PDFs open in Duskmode's dark viewer: Chrome's own toolbar and thumbnails, kept at their normal colors, around fully dark pages — print, zoom, and page navigation all work exactly as you know them. Everything lives in one glanceable popup: a single dial that shows at a glance whether dark mode is on and why (including when your system theme or a schedule is driving it), with themes and per-site control one look away and all fine-tuning one tap deeper. Features • One global toggle, plus a per-site override for the page you're on • A glanceable popup — one dial shows whether dark mode is on and why • Keyboard shortcut to toggle: Alt+Shift+D (rebindable, shown in the popup) • Skips sites that already have a dark theme — force it per-site if you prefer • Follow your system's light/dark theme, or set a time schedule • Four tint themes: Midnight, Slate, Forest, and Dusk • Brightness, Contrast, and Warmth sliders to fine-tune the look • Site Overrides list — review and remove every per-site choice • Toolbar badge shows the current state at a glance • Settings sync between your devices via your browser profile • Works on Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail • PDFs previewed in Google Drive — pages, thumbnails, and comments all darken • Local files from your own device: HTML, text, folder listings, and PDFs • A dark PDF viewer — Chrome's own toolbar and thumbnails around dark pages • Fast and private: no account, no tracking, zero network requests • Fully self-contained — no third-party code, fonts, or images Honest limits Browsers never allow extensions on chrome:// pages or the Web Store — no extension can darken those (the popup tells you when you're on such a page). Local files need Chrome's "Allow access to file URLs" switched on for the extension; the popup links straight to it. In the dark PDF viewer the scrollbar and transient panels (menus, the annotation sidebar) stay light, and pictures inside a PDF are inverted along with the page. Media inside embedded frames can occasionally appear inverted; that's the trade-off that keeps embedded frames dark at all. Privacy Duskmode collects no data and makes no network requests. All your settings stay on your device; syncing between your own devices happens only through your browser's built-in sync. Duskmode is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. "Google Docs", "Sheets", "Slides", "Drive", and "Gmail" are trademarks of Google LLC, used only to describe the sites the extension works on.
