Overview

Discover Japanese YouTube at your level, sync mature Anki vocabulary, and optionally track immersion — on your device.

Immersion Atlas helps you learn Japanese from the media you actually watch. The Immersion Atlas website (immersionatlas.com) is a discovery engine for Japanese immersion: browse hundreds of YouTube channels by real, measured difficulty, see which words unlock a channel for you, and build frequency-ranked Anki decks from any channel's actual vocabulary. This companion extension does the three things a website can't do by itself: 1. Fetch captions on your own connection. When you mine a channel on immersionatlas.com, the extension fetches the caption/transcript text of the videos you choose, on your own internet connection, and hands it back to the site for analysis. YouTube blocks server-side caption access; your browser is the honest path. 2. (Optional) Track your immersion time — locally. Flip on "Track immersion on YouTube" in the popup and Immersion Atlas counts how many minutes you actually watch — only for creators in the Immersion Atlas catalog, only on YouTube watch pages and immersionatlas.com's own players. Your stats page shows minutes per day, per channel, streaks, and where to resume. This history is stored on your device and is never uploaded — the stats page reads it straight from the extension in your browser. Off by default; delete it anytime. 3. (Optional) Keep your mature Anki vocabulary current. With desktop Anki and the AnkiConnect add-on open, approve a local connection once and Immersion Atlas reads only Japanese headwords from cards with intervals of 21 days or longer. Full notes, media, review history, and AnkiWeb credentials are never returned to the site. Decks include word + furigana + JMdict meaning, keyness-ranked ordering, mined collocations, a grammar sub-deck, natural audio, and a ready-to-import .apkg file. Privacy. Accounts are optional. Caption fetching acts only when you start a mining action on immersionatlas.com. Immersion tracking and local Anki access are opt-in. Signed out, personal study data stays on the device; signed-in users may choose the website's account backup. Full policy: https://immersionatlas.com/privacy.html Free to use, and no account is needed to start. Requires the Immersion Atlas site at https://immersionatlas.com.
