Imi - Enhanced Markdown Viewer
Overview
Read Markdown files in the browser: syntax highlighting, Mermaid diagrams, math, contents sidebar and copy buttons.
Imi renders Markdown in the browser instead of showing you raw text or downloading the file. Open a Markdown document and you get a readable page: headings, tables, task lists, highlighted code, diagrams and maths. WHAT IT DOES - Diagrams — Mermaid code blocks are drawn as real flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, state charts, ER diagrams and Gantt charts. - Maths — expressions are typeset with KaTeX, inline or as display blocks. - Code — syntax highlighting for around 50 languages, a copy button on every block, optional line numbers, and a soft-wrap toggle per block. - Navigation — a contents sidebar built from the headings, with scroll-spy and a reading progress bar. Click a heading's anchor to copy a link straight to that section. - Callouts — the GitHub note, tip, important, warning and caution blocks. - Footnotes, emoji shortcodes, and YAML front matter shown as a metadata panel rather than leaking into the text. - Themes — light, dark and follow-system, plus GitHub, Solarized and Nord colours, adjustable text size, line height, column width and body font, and a custom CSS box if none of that is quite right. - Clipboard — copy the whole document as plain text, or shift-click Copy for formatted text that pastes into email and documents with its structure intact. - Watch a document and re-render automatically when it changes on the server. - Remembers where you were in long documents. - Print or save as PDF with the sidebar and toolbar removed. - Rendered and raw views, keyboard shortcuts, and an image lightbox. PRIVACY Imi installs with no access to any website. It collects nothing, sends nothing and contacts no server: no analytics, no telemetry, no remotely hosted code. Every library is bundled in the package and runs from disk. Out of the box it works through the toolbar button, or Alt+M. Chrome grants access to that one tab for that one click and takes it back afterwards. If you would rather Markdown files render on their own, you can grant access on the extension's own Site access page — for all sites, or one site at a time — and withdraw it there at any time. Where a grant exists, Imi is registered only on Markdown file addresses, so it is not loaded on other pages. Local files need Chrome's "Allow access to file URLs" setting, which only you can turn on. If you would rather not, the built-in Open a file page reads a document through an ordinary file picker with no permission at all. Your settings live in Chrome's own sync storage and never reach the developer. OPEN SOURCE Built on marked, DOMPurify, highlight.js, KaTeX and Mermaid, whose licences ship in the package. All content is sanitised with DOMPurify before it reaches the page.
